I bet there are big differences between home and car audio. If you hook up a multimeter or oscilliscope and measure current and voltage (P=V*I) it is gonna be close to what the amp says. Car audio stuff is usually 11-14 V and DC, home audio is 120V 60Hz AC so there are going to be differences in current drawn and i'm guessing power handling/output. I don't have much experience with big power home audio stuff, but just pointing out some differences.

Well I am new here and just wanted to put my two cents in. In my titan I have 4 Orion pro series 10" subs, powered by the Orion 2500D. And it is all under the back seat with the amp exposed under plexigalss and blue neon lights. And it rock the hell out of my whole truck. The bad thing is I am starting to hear rattles I have never heard before.

Im sorry if I started an off topic flame war, I just thought you could use some advice.

I guess the "mines bigger" mentality rules the audio world. A watt is actually quite a lot of power. A sub with TRUE 35w of CLEAN power will pound the hell out of a car/truck. But all the manufacturers need something to make there stuff sound better so they say there amps are 50w, 100w 500w,1000w, 4000w etc until everybody forgets that a watt is a hell of lot of power.
I have had a few amps stable at .25 ohms, they were 50w monoblocks by mcintosh from I think early 80s, but I dont recal. My Krell home amp I currently run at <1ohm, I also use it to heat my basement.

No offense to the thread starter here or anyone else, but regardless of what the specs say, what the box says, what the salesman says, there is no product that you can purchase at a best buy/tweeter/ultimate electonics, that can put out (or handle if were talking about speakers) more than ~300w.

RF is especially notorious for this, if you checked your amp out I would bet hard cash that unless you jacked it to put out dirty power you would never get over 100w.

To put this into perspective let me tell you about my Krell home audio amp (home audio is a little different but the analogy works) is 250w at 4ohm x 2 channels. It cost $10,000.00 and wieghs ~200lbs. Look at that amp, and tell me your 4lb 10"x12"x2" RF has twice the power.

Again I am sorry to rant and mean no offense to the thread starter. I just want to offer a little advice, Don't trust anyone selling anything.
Where are you getting you information? Are you saying the a Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 (available ultimate electronics) is not pushing more that 300WPC? The power series are notoriously underrated. The can push well beyond their rated power (500x2). These amps are very heavy (at least 35-40lbs), and well built. As far as the speakers handling 300 watts. Ultimate caries The fosgate power line’s, infinity perfects, Kicker Solobarics L7’s Ect. Ect. Any of the aforementioned subs (10 or 12”) will handle 1000w no problem.

I would be willing to put a pair of JL 1000/1 ($600 retail) against you Krell amp any day of the week. As far as being an Audiophile amp, your Krell is among the best out there. If you are talking about raw power, those JL (given the proper amperage) will walk all over your Krell any day of the week.

yeah I think all the mentioned stuff hits hard, no doubt about it, I just don't believe they handle (or put out when talking about amps) near the watts they claim to. I believe that when they rate something in watts in the car stereo world they are talking consuption per minute rather than second or milisecond.

I have heard the solobarics in a bandpass, damn things were loud. They were being powered with a PPI amp, I forget the model but the thing was at least 30in long. I normally don't dig bandpass boxes because of the amount of space they take up but I was impressed with this setup.

yea i had two kicker comp tens in a bandpass box with 2 3inch ports for each sub. they shared the front air space but the rear air space had a divider in it
they slammed hard as hell in my wifes 2001 eclipse ....the amp was a punch 200@4 brideged of course... i ddint expect to sound the way it did with the power supply it had but for what it was it slammed like 15's ... i guess more because of the whole hatch back effect making the car act like a giant horn for the sound ...
