If your talking about using the steering wheel controls to run the ipod you could do it now with a pac-swix. but you would lose the ability to use them on the stereo, but you could pick and choose, ie, leave the volume to control the stereo, but have the other buttons control the ipod.
If you use a pac-swix for your HU controls, will you lose the use of the HU remote?
huh?
Using the pac-swix interfaces those controls. You cant have each button control 2 things, only one. so you can choose to either have them control the ipod, or have them control your factory HU.
How exactly would you use the SWI-X to control an ipod? I'll confess I don't know that much about ipods, but I didn't think they had IR remotes....
First you buy a Kenwood head unit with IR remote. Then you buy a Kenwood KCA-iP500 iPod™ Control Interface to connect the Ipod to the HU. (Alpine has a similar Alpine iPod Interface, KCA-420i) Then you use the SWI-X to interface the new HU to the Titan's steering wheel controls. Like the Ipod itself, this might be more $ than you want to spend.
grunge, sorry I was not clear. I just meant that if you use a SWI-X to interface with the steering wheel controls can you still use the remote for the HU. Nothing to do with controlling the IPOD just strictly a HU question.

Yes, but the original question was how to integrate an Ipod with a factory stereo, so that's a little out of the question, but interesting nonetheless.

Yes you can still use your aftermarket HU remote control.
There is an iR remote accessory for the ipod, I was looking at it the other day at BestBuy
Hmmm, I suppose that would work unless they use some weird code. For instance, the SWI-X doesn't work with all HUs. The problem would be getting the thing in line-of-sight with the SWI-X IR LED, but I suppose that would work.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today released a new all-in-one audio visual navigation system created exclusively for Nissan vehicles which enables music fans to connect their iPod* to the system with a designated connector cable for a seamless iPod experience on the road.
"We are very excited to be collaborating with Apple on this project," said Carlos Tavares, Nissan executive vice president and head of planning and design in the press release. "The new HC705-A navigation system gives customers the best possible in-car control of iPod through the system's innovative 7-inch wide touch-panel display. It also allows customers to enjoy their iPod in the car without any concern about battery life."
The iPod remains automatically charged when hooked up to the navigation system with the connector cable, a convenient feature for long trips. In addition to iPod connectivity, the new high-spec hard disk drive navigation system offers numerous other features, including Nissan's CARWINGS telematics service, CD/MD/DVD playback and music recording capability.
The navigation system, a dealer-installed option, retails for 315,000 yen. The system is available at all domestic dealers starting from today and can be fitted on 11 Nissan models, including the Serena minivan, the Tiida compact car, the X-TRAIL SUV, and the Moco minicar. The connector cable, which is sold separately, retails for 20,865 yen. The cable supports all iPod models with dock connector.
