I know I saw a while ago a photo of someone that installed two 6.5" drivers in the front door (2 in 1 door) side by side. I looked thru everythread I could find and don't see it, so if it was you please chime in.
I am seriously considering building my own xover network and making my own custom speakers for my titan. I was wondering if I would be able to run 2 7" midrange drivers in the door. Depth I think I should be ok, but its the fact that the opening I will need to cut (or enlarge) will need to be ~8.5x18. Does anyone see a problem with this?
I am concerned that I panel would not go back on after I did this. I am pretty sure I can go into the door that much, but the panel is what I am really uncertain about.
you can fit two 7" but youll have to fiberglass a bit to strengthen the lower door part (light grey)
as that is one peice all the way down to the magazine holder, and youll have to 9also seal it off in the back of the door panel, and you may have to cut some metal in the door inner parts to allow the driver tofit on the second midrange
take a couple of weeks
ID recommend just one REALLY good 7" to save you the trouble unless you are into car audio a lot
im glassing my doors right now so if you have any other logistical questions ask away
yea if your going to do all that work you should build pods and put them in the kicks, and just use 1 6.5 comp 2 or 3 way set. The imaging would be far superior, jsut invest the extra money into better comps rather than adding more. Also I think they were 5.25's not 6.5s

Well smoke you convinced me to save some $$ and just put one in. If I decide I want to ad an additional speaker (for the 6db gain) then I can order it and the xover parts then.
As far as the kicks go, I have size 15 feet and really dont like loosing the footspace and I am afraid I might damage it with my feet.

How do you figure on getting a 6DB gain! i would be about 3 db.
every 3 DB (roughly) sound doubles, so if you have 2 and you add 2 more your at best going to have 2x the sound or midbass rather,
but you can get the same gain just buying the right components that will get lous and fit properly, hell my Comps have 3 inch Voice coils and my subs will only have 2 inch coils lol.
hell my 6.5 rattle the truck and rear doors (have no matted tehm yet) and they are only run off my HU, once I get some power I hope to feel them kick me in the chest.
your right about the pods, I was thinking abotu doing it, and the audio forum people were demanding it of me, but the drivers side threw me off.
How would the imaging be with midranges in the A-pilars? Everyone told me not to do that and that I would be better off with 2 ways cause it would image better?

Ill tell you in a few days lol after I finish--have to find the right cover material this weekend
but think about it, when you are at home the drivers are facing you up high right in your nice HT setups?
so if you can aim them as close to on axis as possible there is no way a kick will image or stage better than dash mounted speakers
you may bet better path lengths but thats a whole other argument
at least that was my thinking as I was tired of trying to get properly staged speakers from the titan doors, the way they are designed so low, its almost impossible to get the midrange up high enough
since you are sitting at almost 30-60% off axis depending on how tall you are

It has to do with the xover. I am working on getting some custom xovers built for some specific drivers. Honestly I don't know the math but I know that with my amp (75x4) and a total of 6 midrange drivers, and two tweeters I will be pushing 120db. I had the guy who is building the xovers run the math for only 4 midrange drivers and it came out to 114db.
I know nothing about building xovers but I have heard in person one of his systems he designed for a friends del sol, and it was better than most compitiion cars I have heard. And it was running only 2 6" drivers, 2 7" drivers and two tweets. Even without a large sub the bass could be heard from blocks away.
