Focal Utopia 165W

Installed my Utopia's today and all I can say is WHOA!! What a difference these make compared to my Diamonds. If anyone is interested in these, go and get a pair.. Yes, they are very expensive but usually high quality products hand made are.

Too funny!!! I had Diamond M661 comps (last years model which is better then this years model in my opinion). and these Focals stomp all over them. Never would have thought the Focals made that much of a difference but they sure did. Very detailed highs and the midbass is sick!!

Sammy,

When I get my JL Audio W7's installed I will take some pictures for you guys.. By no means is my setup fiberglassed show quality but the SQ will compete with the best of them. Hopefully I will have my W7's installed sometime next week if everything goes as planned. My box is being built for them by Klausaudio. After selling my Titan (which I miss a great deal) I figured no one would like to see my ride...LOL

Hey LIZARDKING I was just wondering if you have heard any noise that sounds like vibration from the door speakers. Im not sure if the plastic is vibrating a little, if there is distortion, or if it is just the music Im listening to. I think I am being too paranoid and am hearing things because I dont think they would have any distortion since I have the Focal speakers as well. Thanks- Chris

Mine don't distort at all but I'm putting about 90 watts RMS of super clean power to them through my Eclipse amp. Maybe your are underpowering them a bit? How your gains set on your amp? What amp you running and whats the rated power?

At the time it was the only amp its size that can produce 85 watts RMS x 4 at 4ohm and have a THD rating of .004% with a signal to noise ratio of 105db. The amp is super clean and is capable of producing more power then its rated for. A very clean amp without a sticker shock price tag.. Soon I will be upgrading to the Zapco C2K 4.0X when I find a decent price. As for the other amp I have, Eclipse DA7232 I won't be getting rid of that ever.. That amp is sick and produces huge power without a lot of current draw and stays clean doing it not to mention its a two channel mono amp. The THD is rated at .005% with a signal to noise ratio of 120db. I could rattle even more specs on these amps but no need too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the DA7232 to anyone wanting a super clean amp with huge power. Capable of producing 1100-1200 watts RMS per channel depending on impedence load.

One of the best seperates out there. I have Focal subs in custom enclosures for my home set-up.
Only thing I don't like about Focal is they are French.

I like my Eclipse amp also, it's an older one that is made in teh USA and is rated 75x2 but when at 12V so it's underrated, since it puts out more at 14.4V which is where many amps are rated at.

It makes my DLS pound in my doors you can even feel the thump in your chest, it vibrates the piss out of them, I used a ton of matting 1/2 roll of RAAMAT on each door + ensolite foam, and 3 layers of matt and ensolite foam behind the speaker, I also covered the majority of the Door Skin itself with RAAMAT and ended up making some foam rings for the door clips because there was enough midbass to make the clips themselves rattle.

I can't even imagine the vibrations you would get from XXX those are supposed to be awesome mids!

My Advice to you if your having rattles is spend the time matting and sealing up the doors, it also increases midbass response.

The older eclipse are rated a little more conservative than the new ones, but IU'm sure the new ones have good SQ and very little problems. Eclipse makes some good stuff. I don't think the new ones are rated at 12V I have to wonder if mine is similar to the 100x2. If I buy another amp it is going to be a DLS A3 Twin Mono 100x2 or up to over 1000 RMS Bridged @ 1 ohm with a huge daming factor. It requires 2 4ga power and 2 4ga ground for ultimate SQ and seperation and is a class AB amp.

http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-...l&catalogno=A3

it is a bit larger though!

Too bad you don't live around here I would love to hear some focals utopia or kp2's installed in a titan since your imaging would be about the same. Glad your happy with them!

My Orion 600watt amp is running the speakers and my JBL gto600.1 is running the subs. I dont hear it all the time I think it might just be the music...at least lets hope so.

Acutally when it comes to SQ your not going to hear a audible difference between a A/B and a Class D amp when running subs. Most people can't even run a A/B amp for subs pushing big wattage unless you have a Nuclear reactor for power...lol... A/B amps draw a lot of power. Now if you plan on running a couple subs off lets say 200 watts for the sub off a A/B amp then you would be fine. I wouldn't go much more then that without upgrading your alternator to at least 220amp. Get a good quality A/B amp for the full range and then a Class D amp for your subs. Now if your going to compete that's a different story.

I like that DLS amp Justintoxicated posted.. But the current draw can be 140amps, add that with a decent mono amp or another class A/B amp and your going to need a new charging system....lol...
