Memphis Components

How are the Memphis speakers? Has anybody used any of the Power Reference series stuff like the 6.5" component set and coaxial set? I listened to them at my audio place and they sounded better than all the other speakers including a JL set that were twice as expensive. I was looking at some CDT speakers but the audio guy said that the CDT stuff doesn't sound all that great. Is the MClass stuff alot better than the power reference stuff? Also can you fit an 8" driver in the front doors? Memphis makes an 8" component set that might sound real good, but its probably really expensive. Sorry for all the questions, thanks!

I just bought and installed them about two weeks ago
I am currently running them as my fronts with the JL VR series as rears.

The memphis are a very vocal bright speaker that sound great........ as long as you only listen to them for 5 minutes... or at very loud volumes

After I put them in I was thrilled with them. they really are a great sounding speaker. But then after a little while you start to notice the lack of low end, and other things that the speakers are missing. I am probably going to listen to them as fronts for another week or two then swap them out.

I am actually very disappointed in them, with some songs, they are teh best sounding speakers I have ever heard, with others they are the worst.

I think an 8" would fit if you cut the hole a little bigger. As long as the driver isn't over ~4" deep it should fit.

I'm probably not gonna use an 8" speaker, I just saw that they made some and wondered if they would fit. I am on the line between these Memphis Reference and the CDT classics on thezeb.com. I cannot decide which would be better. I'm afraid the CDT would be underpowered (45Wx4 RMS @ 12.5V) and I haven't heard them in person which has me worried.

Ic an get you a deal on some DLS MS6, I have read very good things about them.

If you get CDT get the 07's but they are very expensive. I can probably get you in on a deal on some MS6 components for around $150-200.

http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-...talogno=DLSMS6

These are supposed to sound really good, they are not Irridiums but great if your on a buget, at least I have heard great things about them. They use a magnesium cone though so your not supposed to touch the cone material. Seas Lotus References also use magnesium cones. They have 2 inch VC's instead of 3 inch like the iridiums but should have great SQ but they do use a different tweeter.

if you want CDT the guy also sells their product line also, but if you ask him I think he will tell you DLS > CDT for the most part, but not sure on the CDT 07's.

As personal preference, I like having a good front stage, so spending the extra cash is well worth it, it is more important than woofers to me.

you could try diamond Hexes too, but they are alot more than the DLS MS6, and I'm not sure which are actualy better.

Hey if you can get them for $150 I would want them. Also how much would a matching 6.5" coaxial set be for the rears. Those speakers look really good and I bet they sound great. But how power hungry are they. I will only be putting 45Wx4 RMS to them.

I think you will be fine, They are pretty efficient....

I ran my Iridiums off the Hu for a while and they sounded decent, just not as loud as off 75 watt, since Magnesium Series have smaller coils 45 might be enough, if not u know what your next upgrade is...

Honestly I woudl Bridge your amp Run all the power to the front and hookup the rear speakers to the HU, or remove them compleatly... Or hell you could try it both ways, and see what you like better. Most audiophiles will be against any rear speakers, or they have them on a switch etc and only turn them on with people in the back.

Send me a PM and I'll send you the guys info, you will have to send hima PM for the real price. he is usualy cheaper than that site though.

Only thing I did not liek about these is your not supposed to touch the cone do to being magnesium, but if your installing them in the doors it should not be an issue.
