I put HID lights (the kit with the bulbs & ballast) in the low beams (9006) and the results are very good. I was wondering if anybody is running both high (9005) and low (9006) HID kits w/o problems? (getting flashed, ticketed, etc.)
Where did you get them? What brand are they ? How much were they ?
Umm...he was asking if anyone put HIDs in their High beams.
It would seem like a waste of money if you ask me. You don't use your high beam a large percentage of the time and with HIDs in your low beams I would imagine even less. I would just throw in a set of silverstars for your highs and use the other money for mods.
HID's ?? I didnt know they made HID's for the Titan. What did you have to upgrade to install those? Dont you have to upgrade the power output for the real HID's??? Pic's please!!!!

you can put HID's in nearly any vehicle. it doesn't take anything more than a ballast (bulb) and an ignitor/transformer. although it is the cheapest, this is not the best way to do it because the halogen reflectors of most vehicles are not designed for HID light output. check www.hidplanet.com for more info. you will find people that are retrofitting OEM style projector HID setups into non-HID housings. this requires more work but the results are very good.
you don't need to upgrade the "power output." stock titan halogen bulbs disspate 51 watts of power where HID's normally dissipate 35 watts of power. the difference is HID runs at a much higher voltage which is supplied by the ignitor.
do a search on this forum and you will find a number of titan owners that have already done this mod.

They are off of Ebay. The HID kits have been discussed here quite a bit previously. As far as power, they use less than the stock halogens. They use a ballast which cranks things up to 23KV to excite the gas in the lamps. Install & photos by someone else are here:
The only thing I would note is that my kit came with a connector that engages the OEM connector so you don't have the spade terminals exposed like in his photo. So either he was "mechanically challenged" or his kit didn't come with the connector. Everything was plug & play, no cutting. I also put the low voltage wires from the OEM connector to the ballast in split loom. My kit came with metal ballast brackets, but I just Velcroed the ballasts to the plastic trays shown in the photos, cleaning all surfaces with alcohol & paper towels prior to application of the Velcro.
Of course now there is a major mis-match between the color & brightness of the OEM high beam bulbs & fogs with the low beam HIDs. The OEM bulbs look yellow, while the HIDs look very very bright white, with a bluish tinge.
The kit I bought just has a ballast, no ignitor. Apparently they are integrated or don't need it.

What about just using the Infinity QX56 (or whaterver the model is) housing and lights and all? Would they just bolt in?

However, i have wondered if you could take the bulb and balast from the QX... i'm pretty sure it would work, though i havent looked into it. Even so, it would be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

i got my hid kit back in oct 2004. i first had the 8000k wich is really blue and i took them off. then i replaced them with the 4300k with is what the navigator,qx56 and escalade use. they look really sharp but for the first 2 or 3 weeks they will be really brite, and your probably goin to get flashed you need to fabricate some type of shield so that it covers the top of the bulb so you dont get that glare. next time you see a qx56 look at the bulb and you will see what im talking about. try and dirve with the lights in in the day time too so they break in faster.
Bestatchess, are you completely satisfied with the HIDs you have?I am a big believer in lots of light, since I do a lot of driving at night and my 54 year old eyes are-54 years old.
The price $280 is about what I could swing-justify-with our current no jobs,no income living on plastic situation.
How long have you had them(maybe you already answered this, but I missed it)?
Did you get the 6000 temp or the 8000?I would for the lower temp-more light.
Thanks.Charlie PS This will be the 1st of the mods I have been putting off because I thought I might trade for a 2005 FFV CC,but there is zero chance of that. Power locks will be next, then the power mirrors that have been sitting in my parts room for about 1 year.

I installed them two days ago. I really like them. I'm going to hunt down some silver stars for the high beams & fogs. Anything that might allow me sufficient advance warning to keep a deer out of the grill is good with me.
My guess is that they are 6,000 for the color, not sure. They show a little blue although they don't seem "bright blue" to me. You can email the guy and make sure as they show different color options.
