FM fade

I've noticed that sometimes it seems as though the stereo affect goes in and out that is the best way I can describe it. Is this FM fade? The (st) symbol does not flicker and I don't here any static. If this is FM fade and if the dealer replaces the radio will this fix the problem? Have the replacements had something done to them to correct this problem? Thanks.

This was a common problem on the early Titans. Most were replaced with new radios (mine included.) First ensure that your Speed Sensitive Volume (SSV) is not the problem. Turn it off and see if that fixes it. If your Titan is a 2005, I doubt you have the reception issue.

It's an 04 and I did turn the ssv off but it still does it. It's not real noticeable and I've only noticed it a couple of times so that is why I posted I would like to know if this is the same symptom you and others have experienced. I want to be sure it's not just my imagination.

kongmen,

It is not your imagination although one dealership I used to go to could not duplicate it however the second one picked it up immediately.

I have an early 04 and am getting mine changed out-it's a TSB.

Your question to ask the dealership:
1. Have you any TSB's on radio fading?
2. What are the symptoms for it occurring?

Make them tell you rather than you tell them. It will save lots of time!

Mike

If you truck meets the requirements of the TSB, take a copy of it to the dealer and ask to have your radio replaced. Some dealers just won't take the time to find the TSB. I took a copy down to my dealer and they ordered the replacement and called me back when the radio came in.

Radio fade

When I first bought my 04 Titan in July, 2004 I had this problem. After a month I was tired of the fade and listening to CDs over and over so I torqued the antenna down some and my reception improved, alittle. A few months ago I moved to an area where FM transmission is poor and it all came back. This time I removed the antenna and lightly sanded the base of the antenna and mount. After that I have not had the problem.

Push the right side knob a few times until it cycles to SSV.

The big question is does it make a difference when the radio is replaced? What makes the new radio different? I'll give the sanding a try first.

The FM fade issue was the only thing resolved with the newer radio that I know of. I don't recall the specific problem, but something was not set correctly with the first batch. The fade was cured. Other than that, there weren't any new features.
