Looks really good. What is the stuff you put on the outside of the bottom? Also why not use terminal cups rather than sealing around the wires? I like it though, I didn't angle my box because I didn't have the means to make all the angled cuts. Carpeting is always a pain in the ***, I don't know if your doing that or not.

1) That stuff on the bottom is a type of sound deadening material (like Dynamat) that I picked up 100sq ft of years ago for $80 free shipping on e-bay. I forget the brand, but it is made in Canada.
2) All the custom stereo installs I've had done in my cars have had straight cables run from the subs to the amplifiers - but now that I think about it, I might go back and put the terminals on there so I can remove the box if I had to (yeah right, like I'm going to drive around without the subs after I put them in - hehe! Who am I trying to kid?)
I made this box out of 1/2" MDF from Home Depot that costs $15 for a sheet (I made the box out of 1 sheet) The 5/8 was $10 and wasn't nearly as dense/strong as this 1/2" for some reason. I can jump up and down on the side or top of the box and it doesn't bend at all!
And it sounds great! I tested it in the truck and it sounds VERY smooth and plays sub/low/medium bass loud and even! (I didn't even have a crossover setup - I was playing it full range and it still rocked the house!) My test setup was from a 200watt home amplifier running 2 ohm mono with a big fan blowing on it so it wouldn't overheat. The amplifier I will be using in the truck will be pushing 750watts 2 ohm mono! SCHWEET!!!
I just got some plain old black platic cups. They will be behind it anyway so you won't see them. I want to be able to take the box out in case I need to put something there or will be doing something where people with muddy feet will be in the back. Want to perserve the box. One thing that sucks for me though is that I can't find any smaller rear floormats. I don't want to run the stock ones because they bow up and can touch the woofer surround. It may not hurt anything, I'm just paranoid about damaging my subs. (BTW, I have 2 JL10W3V2 subs in a kc Titan)

Beautiful work, well documented, with nice pics. I bet there are some folks out there that would love to have some dimensions, especially on that pic with all the peices laid out. Well done!

Ditto!

This weekend I will put up shots of the wiring, amps and box install when I get everything hooked up. Here are some things I noticed when I put the box in the truck:
(1) The factory carpet is bending up about 1/2" OR MORE towards my subs from the weight of the box pressing around the edges. When I dynamat the bottom of the truck I might remove the foam padding and/or the actuall carpet under the box. I may even jack the box up somehow another 1/2"+. The box is 9" in the front and 7" in the back - but I still can get about 3/4" under the crew cab seat and have the seats still lock into place. I was actually able to put cut 2x4's under the back lip and still managed to lock the seats down by sitting on them and bouncing - LOL!
The way the box is designed it was supposed to leave 2 1/2" in the front and about 1 1/2" in the rear clearance from the wood to the floor. This would have left around 1 3/4" in the front and 3/4" in the rear from the surround to the floor. Since the carpet is bowing up 1/2" or more all around - it seems like I am getting 1/4" of clearance in the back! When shoving the 2x4" in the back (thus creating 1 3/4" to 2" clearance to the ground from the surround) the sound seemed to get a little louder during testing. I will be trying a few things to maximize the space between then sub surround and the ground to see if I can get alittle more punch from the subs.
(2) Utilizing the 1/2" MDF and splitting the chambers with supports in the middle of the box made a very sturdy box (I was pleasantly suprised by how strong it was!) I ended up with about 3/4" - 1" of clearance behind the subwoofer magnet - perfect for breathing. Could I get away with less and put that space underneath the box? Possibly. If I had used 3/4" MDF the magnet would be nearly touching the box.
The cabinet is made with 10 degree and 22 degree angles. There is nothing square about this box.
I took 3 HiFonics HZ10 subwoofers out of my BMW 740 bandpass box. They are great subs for the cheapo price! I'm not a big fan of $500 subwoofers. I run Eclipse for my mids and highs in almost all my vehicles (which can be had cheap on e-bay) and they are great! My ears like the sound of Eclipse better then Infinity, MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, etc. I think it's the tweeters making the difference.
My favorite subwoofers of all time have been M&M Godfathers and Petras Hyperthrows. Once again, these subwoofers could be had in the $75-$150 range for 10" to 15" subwoofers and they rocked non-stop for years!
My favorites amplifiers are US Amps! HOLY MOSES THESE THINGS ARE BAD ***. Why do I have HiFonics Amps? No clue. I sold my 3 US Amps from a truck years ago and have been on the cheap since them. I got the HiFonics Amps on Ebay cheap and they seem to sound good, run good and they don't overheat.
