Who has 8w7's?

I was just searching around looking for the people with 8w7's and can't find them. I know people have them. If you have them in your truck, post a pic. Also tell what your box is...ported, sealed, volume, up/forward/down firing, etc. I keep thinking how cool it would be to run a couple of those instead of my 10W3's, but am afraid they won't go low enough in a sealed box and there would only be enough volume for a single 8w7 if I went ported. I think the output would be lower than what I currently have with only 1 8w7. Please tell me I'm wrong. Also, if you have any comments on what your 8w7's are "louder than" or "sound better than" to you, that might be helpful too. Thanks!

Re: Who has 8w7's?

I personally do not think an 8w7 would sound louder than 2 10w3's. Its just a matter of cone area. If your giving the same amount of power to both applications, I think the w3's will out perform a single 8" woofer. UNLESS, you just happen to build a kick *** ported box for that 8". It would have to be in every respect, "Perfect."

But I still dont think the frequency response will hold up with the w3's.

Just an opinion.

Re: Who has 8w7's?

w7's are a different kind of animal, two of them sealed will sound far better than those w3's IMO

you dont really have enough room to port them properly. Id seal them firing forward with abou 1-1.2 cu ft sealed depending on your box buidling skills send them 300-400 each

and youll be more than happy

they just are rather costly, but sound good IMO

How does 4 JL8w7s fit your bill?

Here ya go cut and paste, after you paste it take the space out between club and titan.

Re: Who has 8w7's?

the only way to do that is with fiberglass, and I still think he has those 8w7s choked on volume

as there is NO way that there is 4 cu ft in the rear of the titan. he must be using a TON of polyfill

Output is about displacement which is a factor of cone area and travel. A 10W3v2 has 3% greater displacement than an 8W7. You need a 100% increase in displacement before you get a noticable difference. So you can say that the 8W7 has the same output capabilities as a 10W3v2. They both have the same power handling but the required enclosure for the 8W7 is larger. Probably not pratical as an under-seat application.
As far as SQ, the W7 represents the best sounding woofer JL Audio knows how to manufacture for the price. The W3v2 is older than the W7 so it does not benefit from the DMA optimized motors the rest of the line does.
The advantage of the W3v2 in this case is the lower price, smaller mounting depth and flexibility of impedance choices.
The Stealthbox does not use the 8w7 because it's not small enclosure friendly being a high-efficiency subwoofer. The 10W3v3 will outperform an 8W7 if the later was shoe-horned into an enclosure that is too small.

Re: Who has 8w7's?

Aright...heres the deal. I honestly dont know much about the sound system, but at my local Audio Video, they said they put 2 8w7's in a Crew Cab Titan and it sounded amazing. A friend hooked me up and now i have 2 8w7's and a 500/1 amp (not yet installed). Im planning on keeping the RF speakers and head unit for now though.
What do you guys think? Should i get a different amp to run them both, or will the 500/1 run it fine? What else should i get?

Re: Who has 8w7's?

8s won't go so deep. A single 10w7 or a pair of 10w6 would probably be good. Also, don't leave out the Image Dynamics IDMAX. Good sub for less.

Re: Who has 8w7's?

u really dont think the 8w7's will fit?
Ive heard good things about image dynamics. are they as clean and loud as my 8w7s would be? would sort of set up should i look at?

are you sure you have heard the 8w7 in its proper box?? it doesnt go low?? ill admit 10w7's go deeper with more force, but they dont fit, and there is no way a idmax is going to fit in a titan , if you plan on keeping the rear seats man

dont send the guy off on a goose chase lol

and the w6 output and technology is no where near the w7 for output and low distortion, but hey

Re: Who has 8w7's?

I honestly think in the same application, the W7 series subwoofers is the best performing subwoofer in the industry.. Definatley not the cheapest, but will out man any other subwoofer in its class.

"In the same application"

Re: Who has 8w7's?

well. thanks guys. I guess i'll just stick with my 2 8w7's and 500/1 amp. Im going to try and get them installed in the next few days. They should work fine with the "RF" speakers i already have, even though they are not actually RF, they're good enough for me.
What do you guys think would be a good box, wires, and installation price?

Car Domain is a poor source for comparison. There are not technically competent people working there and everything is spun so what they sell is best....hmmm.
I am not sure why we are talking about 12W7 when the 8W7 fitting was in question.
The biggest BS specification is straight out of the pages of Crutchfield. Efficiency is not a good indicator of output. The higher the efficiency, the larger the enclosure needs to be to reproduce low frequency. Do you want high efficiency or small enclosure? You can't have both. Low efficiency drivers will have much more output in a small enclosure than a high efficiency driver will. This is why I stated that the 10W3v2 would out-perform an 8W7 if the later was in an enclosure that was too small.
There are lots of other reasons the W7 is the woofer of choice and why it costs what it did. Other woofers did not come up until you hi-jacked the post so it's moot.
