My center channel is quiet as a mouse when playing a 5.1 dvd. (and all other times too..) Factory HU is the RF w Navi/DVD, added only Alpine 600w w JL subs in a stealth box, bypassing the under seat stock subs. Did I disconnect it or what? Need a wiring diagram or a know where to look reply. Help is always appreciated. Don't recall a center channel output gain pot either. I am sure the DVD player has a center output, and I know I have a center speaker top of the Navi.
Sounds great but without the center, the dialog is really soft compared to the rest of the movies sound effects. PS, I also added video up front on the Navi screen..
Nissan DVD Mobile Theater System ... (Dealer) was I really fooled into thinking that the center channel is an actual center channel like in Dolby 5.1?? Holy cow, thats just not right.
I must overcome this one Sammy. What purpose does this center speaker serve (channel)and therefore what is it supposed to do? Just mash the left and right together?? The DVD player is a dolby digital, so where o where is that center signal going? Could you explain a bit more? Thanks
Unless something has changed from '05 (MP3 playback is all that I know of) then there is only stereo from the DVD player. The RF HU only sends left right front and rear to the OEM amp and it produces the center channel and sub. So according to the schematics, no 5.1.
Hmmmm. So, since I have NO sound whatsoever from the center speaker under any conditions, what do you think I did by disconnecting the factory sub to power my JL's? Did this eliminate the signal back to the center speaker? Any ideas, or a schematic link perhaps? I then surrender and guess that some center is better than none at all... Lemme know thanks!

Well then I'd say you have a problem, but how bad do you want it to work is the question. During my install I had all the OE speakers removed except for the center channel. In order to even listen to it I had to crank the volume way up (sorry I don't recall the numerical setting.) My point is, it really isn't doing all that much for you to begin with. But if it's not working at all, then I'd say your dealer would be the one to figure out what's wrong.
Perhaps you are correct. But when my dealer gets a look inside and sees all the mods, I am afraid they will freak out. I would too if I even let them touch it. Thank goodness I am out of warranty with 41k on the od. Now I can figure out how I am going to make this puppy gimme 5.1. First rip out the current dvd player..... Find them wires.....Next add a dedicated center channel amp............ Hmmmm this is gonna get complikate. I know! No more 5.1 dvd rentals and trrru sterreo soounnnd. L&R the way it should be anyway..hehehe
The 04 wiring for the Rockford system went as follows: (I would expect not any changes for 05 or 06) The four channel output (L and R for front and rear) feed to The Amp. Each speaker group has an output from the amp - L and R for front and rear, center and L and R channels to the subwoofer.
Assuming the new sub-woofer amp is connected to wiring that would normally attach to the Nissan sub-woofer, then there is nothing about that connection which would have rendered the center speaker inoperative.
I would strongly suspect the center speaker is bad. The next potential suspect is the amp channel for that speaker. The simplest test would be to replace the center speaker.
there are 5 and even 6 channel amps, but usually with the 5s the 5th channel carries more power for use with a sub, and might only send lower frequencies as well, hmmmm..... I wonder if anyone makes a 5 channel amp with equal power per 5 channels. I considered trying to use that center mount for a tweeter when I do my audio overhaul this spring.

I have the 2006 RF system (no DVD). There is a lot of sound coming from my center speaker. It seems most of the vocals in music comes thru that speaker. It seems to be a midrange speaker.

There is a lot of help and insight coming here, thanks all. If anyone has a schematic for the center it would be helpful. I will also check and see if I inadvertently disconnected the center speaker also....if I can remember how to access it. A comment on access would be helpful too. And Eakes, you have 5.1? How is that? Aftermarket? Thanks again.. looking forward to more good stuff...
I meant Grunge 5.1... Anyway, I cannot recall the connections that were used for the aftermarket JL subs. But if the center is also driven throught the HU amp, then perhaps the connector was totally removed to make way for the Alpine driving the JL subs, whilest that connection was bypassed. The first thing I should check is the connections, if I can remember how to remove the top cover. I am real good at removeing the radio faceplate with a good tug, but the GPS Navi bezel and center speaker top has got me stuck so to speak.
