System question

I just bought (2) Kicker 12" Solo Barics and (2) 1200 watt Sony Xlode amps. I am also swapping the stock door speakers for Polk. Will all this wire to the factory HU or will I need to swap heads too? And if I swap heads can I keep my factory six disk changer? I want to build a box for under the rear bench in a King Cab without losing any seating room or leg room that will house my subs, amp and capacitor. I think I want forward firing, with a plexi front. Will this work or are the SBs too tall? Anyone got any suggestions or tips?Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am new to the audio game.

Re: System question

2400 watts? With a 130 amp alternator? Guys keep posting stuff like this, but I still don't get the math.

None of the three OEM HUs have RCA pre-outs. The CD changer is integrated with the HU, so if the HU goes, so does the CD changer. If you want to keep the HU, you could use an LOC, or maybe something like the Clean Sweep, or the altomobile UI-4. Scosche makes regular & reverse harnesses that you can use to connect an LOC to the HU w/o hacking the factory wires.

You didn't say whether you have the Rockford Fosgate stereo or not. If so, it uses an external amplifier up under the dash on the driver side firewall.

Re: System question

If they are 12's u cant install "front fire" without losing leg room...ud have to take up all the leg room to front fire em...u could down fire or upfire but that depends on the subs as well...I dont really know those subs but ur looking at fitting some subs with a mounting depth of at MOST 6 inches I would say...I got 1 12" in my KC and Im losing leg rom on the drivers side cuz I flared out my custom box on the drivers side but brought it back in on the passenger side...My subs mounting depth is 5 3/4 and it was pretty tight...

good luck on ur install

Re: System question

I may be wrong, but by tying in a capacitor won't that help take care of some of the power supply problems? BTW I think I am going to build the box myself.

Re: System question

Considering you a newb... (as am I) let me put it simply. You bought the wrong subs!

Those COULD be installed but not easilly and not with full seat function. Take them back and buy some Shallow 10s that work in a small sealed enclosure.

This is the best advice I can give somone without much audio experience. Infinity Reference subs are cheap, easy fit, etc. There are also many others that will work in the 10" range. Once you step up to 12" you are very limited in your easy install options.

Re: System question

I hear those solobarics put out some great bass, but they are the wrong choice for the King cab unless you completely remove the rear seat. You need mega internal volume for just one of those, let alone 2. I think they work best in a ported enclosure. Also, the cap is just the beginning of the upgrades you'll need to the electrical system. You'll probably need a high current alternator charging 2 red top batteries, 1/0 ga. power wire from each battery to blocks, and figure on a cap for each amp.

Now let's get to the door spkrs. You have the momo or reference series? There goes a couple more amps, or a good 4 channel amp. The audiocontrol matrix LC6 or JL cleansweep will allow you to keep the factory HU, and the cleansweep will correct the dsp and factory equalization pertinent to the factory speaker system, so you can flatten & clean the signal going to the new amps.

Sure, try that with 1/2 Farad capacitor. Get those pliers out and short those leads

Make some sparks, for sure. I am the world's biggest chicken when it comes to HV capacitors.
