06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

I just bought a 06 titan LE RF w/o nav, and I want to add the nav system and the 06 RF mp3/cd changer headunit. Is this possible to do easily? are the harnesses in an 04 non-nav RF, compatible with the newer 06 nav/RF system?

Has anyone ever done this? any help would be great.

From past reading I don't think the harness for the Nav is there. You would have to run all new wires which is not worth it IMO. Better off going aftermarket.

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

do you have any idea what the wiring looks like? like, how much of the wiring harness is different. Could i just purchase a wiring harness from the dealership? Just the part for the NAV that is different than the stock?

anyone have a wiring diagram of both models to see the difference? or a DL'ble service manual with the wiring diagrams?

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

Just put the 06 RF HU w/ MP-3 in my 05 and it works like a champ, took all of 20 minutes to do, and most of that was looking for one of the dash cover clamps that had fallen off and fell behind the dash. Only problem is the aux plug picks up engine noise when I turn the lights on, no lights no hum, weird ,but it is much louder than the aux plug on the 05.

If anybody needs an 05 RF HU let my know, I'll let it go cheap.

Is it the AUX plug picking up the noise, or is it the device plugged into the AUX jack picking up the noise? If it is an mp3 player plugged into the lighter socket, try unplugging the mp3 player from the lighter socket and running it on internal battery power or using an A/C adapter plugged into a wall socket in your house (use extension cord if necessary).

I have an 05 LE with the RF HU and aux jack, and I normally keep my sony mp3 sport discman plugged in 24/7 (and it will run like forever on AA batteries), When I use my portable tablet dvd player, I just unplug one and plug in the other. The mini cables are pre-run and easily switchable. Anyway, I get a buzz when the lights are on in aux mode while the discman is attached but not powered up, but as soon as I power up the discman, its gone. Now if my dvd is plugged in there, and not powered up, I get no buzz when the lights are turned on (and that's pugged into the cig. lighter socket for power)

So that blows your theory, bestatchess

So no buzz ever from DVD player?

Buzz from AA battery powered discman only when lights on & discman off?

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

Yeah, I have no idea why. If i had a DC adapter for the discman, I would try that to see if it still buzzes.

What's also weird is, it takes a few seconds after turning the headlights on for the buzz to start, so maybe there's a delay in a relay or something. I really don't know.

While I'm at it, I've also experienced delays in heater turning on or off while the headlights are on, or in changing blower speeds, it always takes longer to kick in when the lights are on. Maybe because there is more demand for power, it slows down the switches or something.

I'm not an electronics guru so I can't really take an educated guess.

Do you have any ground upgrades?

For example, the active tuning grounding wire kit or 0 gage battery-chassis upgrade?

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

Right now I've got 250 watts RMS in aftermarket amp power, added to the premium RF (no NAV) system, so what's that like 425 watts RMS total. I know the advertised 350 watts RF system is probably peak wattage so I'm figuring around 175 for that.

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

O.K., I give up, I dunno what is going on. I used to have a little whine when I turned the lights on before I upgraded the grounds. In your case, since it happens with one AUX device and not the other, maybe it has something to do with the device itself. (ground loop, power supply in the device).

Re: 06 Navigation/RF MP3 swap into 04 RF w/o NAV???

What I suspect is happening is this: With the lights turned on somewhere in the light circuitry there is an RF signal being generated which is modulated by the alternator whine. The discman circuit board and/or the audio cable is acting as an antenna which picks up the radiated RF. When the discman is not powered a transistor in the output stage is acting as a diode and 'detecting' the RF signal. The output of the detector is an AC voltage which replicates the alternator whine. This signal is introduced directly onto the AUX input of the radio, thus one hears the whine in the radio when switched into the AUX position. Once the discman is turned on the transistor starts acting like an amplifier because of the bias and signal voltages applied and ceases to detect the RF signal.
Since the output of the dvd is of different design, the condition is not replicated when that device is not plugged in.
You may be able to alter the undesired signal by changing the length of cable that connects the discman to the aux and/or moving the discman position in the truck.
