Having a problem cranking up the volume from iPod through AUX input.
Hi all, I just got an iPod Nano and hooked it up through the factory radio using the AUX in jack. But the volume is not as loud as when I use the radio or play a CD. I have to have the volume turned all the way up to 31 to hear the music coming from iPod. I not sure if its a iPod problem or a Nissan problem, but has anyone else had this problem?

OK...
First thing, is your truck capable of playing an iPod. Not sure which year they added that option.
Second thought, my XM unit has a seperate volume control built-in, so I had to turn that up before I could hear it. Id' say start there-with your iPod.
Good luck!!

I have the same issue with my mini. You have to turn the volume up pretty far on your ipod so the signal is strong enough to be amplified. Mine works pretty well after I figured that out. Much better than an FM transmitter!

Same problem with my Rio Forge thru the AUX input. Usually have the volume all the way up on both. Some mp3s and podcasts have variance in sound level/quality themselves, but there is definitely a major difference so much that I have to remember to turn it down before switching between CD/Radio and the AUX input.

Re: Having a problem cranking up the volume from iPod through AUX input.
I bought a Boosteroo from Amazon.com and it works great. I didn't feel like taking the dash apart so I used velcro on the back of my xm receiver and theres no problem.

No problem with my Creative MicroPhoto.
I believe the S/N ratio of the Creative products is much higher than Apple.
Try turning the volume level all the way up on your Nano. The battery charge won't last nearly as long, but you should be able to hear it.
Also, there are inline amps that you can get to boost the signal.
Don't waste you time with FM transmitters and the like. They give you radio quality sound. If you want radio quality sound, just listen to the radio.
Good luck.

Re: Having a problem cranking up the volume from iPod through AUX input.
Thanks for all of the info. To answer some of the questions above it is a 2005 with a Aux input jack. This is how I am hooking up the iPod. I bought the cable at Radio Shack for $5 bucks. I also am using a microflex car charger so I am not using the battery all the time. I am still learnig stuff about the ipod everyday but I have tried to turn up the volume from the ipod, but it has no effect. I can only control the volume from the factory radio. Thanks for all the feedback..

Re: Having a problem cranking up the volume from iPod through AUX input.
The signal level of the aux input is much lower than all other inputs. I have no idea why Nissan designed it that way and in my opinion it wins the award for stupid move of the year. I mean why put the aux input there if your just going to hamstring it with terrible signal quality. All you do is piss off the people who try to use it. The problem is well documented in these forums. do a search for PIE amplifier and you'll see some creative solutions others have used to fix the problem. The problem is not your ipod, and no-one elses devices play at the right level through the aux port either despite what many here say. You will also find posts that say the Belkin car charger with the built in line amplifier gets the aux input to the right level. It does not. I tried it and it's basically the same. Others will say the Monster car charger does a good job of leveling the signal strength. It does not. I tried that one too. I've tried multiple devices in multiple Titan's. The only way to match the level through the aux input is to amplify the signal coming out of it which goes into the head unit (e.g. using a PIE amplifier or similar device). Period. There is no other way.
Now I do have the factory nav and dvd player and the dvd player does have RCA inputs which is what I use to play my ipod through. The signal level of that input matches the other inputs (Radio/CD/DVD) and it sounds great.
I just can't understand the reasoning of whoever signed off on the design of that aux input. Makes no sense whatsoever. Very annoying.

You hit the nail right on the head. It is pretty annoying... I keep trying to think of a reason why it's like that but I can't. I don't want to use an inline amplifier because I don't want to add any more distortion to my XM radio. Can anyone think of a legitimate reason for this little quirk?
