Rear Seatbelt Bolt Help

When I removed my rear seats, I had alot of trouble installing the driver's side seat belt bolt in the floor. I know how to thread a darn bolt without crossing the threads, so I don't know what the heck happened. The bolt looked all screwed up so I ordered a new one and tried it but it wouldn't even start. Just today I got the old one with some crappy looking threads to catch, but it won't get tight and I don't want to overdo it and totally strip the hole. Anybody else have a similar problem with any of the bolts that go into the rear floor? I really don'e want to have to drill and re-tap the hole and get a larger bolt.

Re: Rear Seatbelt Bolt Help

Do the holes daylight under the truck? If so, maybe you could use a longer bolt of the same size and put a new nut on it from under the truck.

Re: Rear Seatbelt Bolt Help

Nope, they just go into a "cup" type thing. I'm not gonna touch it now that I got the bolt mostly in. The belt attachment is still a bit loose though. Next time I am at the dealer I may just say "I noticed the seat belt was a bit loose, can you check it". If they remove it, its their problem to fix it. That plan will probably backfire and I'll end up with a $200 bill.

Re: Rear Seatbelt Bolt Help

I had the problem with my '72 blazer. I just got a tap (same size) and ran it thru the existing hole. It cleaned up the threads and i was able to install a new bolt. The old bolt wouldnt work because the threads had been damaged.

Re: Rear Seatbelt Bolt Help

OK, that was what I was gonna try next. I am just afraid to take the bolt back out now that I got it most of the way in.
