Problem: sirius sportster and aux input

I've been using the fm transmitter with my sirius sportster for the past few months. Yesterday I went to radioshack and got a stereo cable to connect the sportster to the aux input for better sound quality. My problem is that sound only comes out of the driverside speakers. What's the deal?

Are you sure you got a stereo cable and not a mono cable? You can tell its stereo if you look at the metal part of the plug and see two usually black stripes, or contacts. If there is one its mono.
