I bought this HU today and got it installed. I have to report, so far, that this is an awesome unit. I like the sound and control. I added the IPOD cable and that works like a champ.
My question is do any of you know what it takes to defeat this unit's parking brake and brake pedal to use the video while driving? I have read the grounding of the brake pedal cable works on other Alpine unit or a switch must be used, but I wanted to know what works for this particular unit? Any help would be greatly appreciated before I go out and buy the PAC unit that does this as well.
I just had this installed as well and am looking for the same information, so if you come across something good please share. I think this is a great HU but the sound shaping abilities are very limited unless you get the 701 add on.

I will pass on any info I get. It looks like once the video gets activated the i-customize feature is active and you can customize the EQ and other settings. At least that's what the book says. Of course I can't see that right now cause I don't have the video active. I've been reading and it looks like the PAC TR7 is preset for the Alpine video bypass and is very easy to hook up. I'm going to call around some local dealers tomorrow and see if I can find on local and hook it up. I will let you know.
If anyone has a different idea, please let me know. Thanks!!
if your unit requires you to depress the foot brake while cycling the hand/foot brake three complete times and then leaving it on, you can do the following using switches instead...
1. connect the emergency parking brake wire to a switch which is then grounded on the other end.
2. connect the foot brake wire to a switch which is then connected to a 12v source on the other end; or you could wire to the foot brake.
the tr7 will automatically do this "dance" for you every time you start your vehicle.
Yep either the dance or tr7. I have the tr7. Also I have the h701 processor and it's a pita to tune. It sounds like crap now. I have a fiber optic cable to it so no engine whine as I did before but I get a hum now.

I did the TR7 last night and watched the Dukes of Hazzard this morning on my way into work. More like listened to it and glanced during times of stop on the great Atlanta interstates.
I realized last night when reading more carefully in the instrustion book that the 701 was needed to set the crossover points and EQ stuff. So it that thing that difficult to use or time intensive? Would I be better off installing an AudioControl crossover unit and control the sound through that?
the 701 has a LOT of settings. i accidentally turned on surround sound and could only get sound on the left side. took a a min to figure that out.
it's a 31 band eq to each channel. the xover you have to have some knowledge of slopes or at least a good ear. I got my system sounding better buy changing the phase out the mids. the deck has that feature but it's not the same.
I have an audio control 6xs if you want a no brainer unit. that was in there before I replaced it w/ a h701. pm if you're interested. mint cond.

did you add aftermarket speakers or the HU running on the stock speakers? if so, how does it sound on the stock speakers?

thanks in advance!
Yes, I have replaced the factory speakers with Boston Acoustics and I'm running them off a 4-channel amp (JL Audio 300/4). So I wouldn't know how it sounds with the stockers.
