hooking 2 amps together

i have 2 amps now, i just got a jl 500/1 and a 10w6 in a ported box. then i have a 350.4kicker amp for all 4 door speakers. im still using the stock HU and i got the RCA adapter. so my question is how do i hook the new amp up? i also think im going to have to get an extra battery.

Re: hooking 2 amps together

If the amps have the right connections, you can daisy chain the signal from one to another with RCA patch cable and then low pass one of them to the sub. 0 gauge power & ground cable, upgrade the grounds from the battery & alternator & pull decent speaker wire through the door boots would be a good idea. Use 0 gauge fused at the battery to a fused distribution block near the amps, then you can run appropriate smaller gauge from the distribution block for the last couple of feet to the amps.

I would get one good battery and run with that for awhile. Then you might think about an HO alternator rather than a second battery.

Check out Sammy's audio install thread which is a sticky at the top of the audio section of the forum.

Re: hooking 2 amps together

My infiniti amp had speaker level inputs. I hooked it to the stock speaker outputs from the head unit in the dash. Bestachess is right about running a 0 gauge wire to a distribution block. Use an optima battery. I wouldn't mess with a second battery or a HO alternater. The more you mess with, the more to go wrong and void your warranty. If you get it hooked up and it fades on bass just get a Capacitor (Cap).

Re: hooking 2 amps together

Y splitters for the RCAs, and split the remote wire. Thats assuming niether amp has an rca out.

Really hooking up two amps isn't a problem, whats going to be fun is running the speaker wires to the RF amp under the dash

Simple solution: throw the RF amp into the trash.

You want to run a 0 gauge wire (fused near the connection at the + battery terminal) to a fused distribution block. Then run separate power wires from the distribution block to the amps. The long run should be made with the 0 gauge and the runs from the distribution block to the amps should be as short as possible. Run separate ground wires from the amps to the ground point. Daisy chaining the remote wire should be fine as it is very low current. Do not daisy chain the power or grounds.

The fuse at the battery protects the 0 gauge wire. The fuses in the distribution blocks protects the smaller gauge wire from the block to the amps. Select fuse rating & wire gauge depending on amp max current draw.
