Rockford factory sub

Does anyone happen to know what size sub is under the seat in a '06 CC LE with the 350W RF system?

Follow up to that, does anyone know how easy/hard it is to swap it out for a different manufacturer sub of same size?

Re: Rockford factory sub

I swear I posted this yesterday..

The sub is an 8", it can be replaced with a slim 10, or two 8s, I have done both and prefer the two 8s.

You will need an amp, and the largest box I have been able to fit under the drivers seat is ~.5cu

Re: Rockford factory sub

Do you have any pictures of that?

Did you build the box yourself or purchase it?

I only ask b/c I have 2 - 8" Resonant Engineering subs that are screaming to go under my seat... hehehe

I'm not interested in doing the whole under back seats thing, I want something tight and out of sight.

Here is a picture of the 10" box I built.
FS: Earthquake SWS-10 custom box under drivers seat

For the 8"s (eu-700s which are slightly smaller than standard 8s) I used a box of the same size only cut two holes for 8s rather than one for 10.

The external dimensions are something like 17x12x5... made with 1/2 birch
its the 5" depth thats tricky.

If you are serious about doing this I can get better measurments.

Re: Rockford factory sub

yeah, I'm definitely serious.

The sound from the RF system is decent enough for what I use it for most of the time (Howard 100 and 101), but when I'm in the mood for music, I need some bass....

I'm past my days of filling the back seat with a box (no offense to all of you that did/do, but I bought a big arse truck for a reason - space.

These RE's are 8 1/2" accross the top and it looks like they'll fit in a 7 1/2" hole. From the top to the bottom of the magnet, they are 4 5/8" deep.

Ballpark math looks like they'd be tight, but they'd fit. I wonder if the air space will be enough tho...

I suppose I can build it and see

I should also tell you, that you have to down fire them, otherwise the seat rattles like a SOB (the wires in the power seat), I made some 1.5"x1.5" blocks that I set the box on downfiring, they sink into the carpet alot but give the subs some clearance for excursion.

If I get a chance I will give you some proper measurements.

Re: Rockford factory sub

Go to edesignaudio.com and get a 19 OV 2 dual 2 and a 1000 watt amp. Then throw out the back seats and install a 5 cu ft. ported box. Problem solved.
