JVC AVX706 (6.5" double-din) Installation - Pics & Video

Put my new JVC AVX706 HU in yesterday...system is nowhere near being complete, but this is where I started. I'll be wiring in a SWI-ALP as well as an amp and 10" sub over the next week or two...

The AVX706 is a beaut. The only thing missing is navigation, but I don't really need it - not to mention you can pick this sucker up for $525 if you look around (paid a bit less for mine thanks to some credit card 'points').

iPod integration is pretty good - not as slick as Alpine's 2006 implementation - but definitely fully functional. DVDs look great too, although I probably won't watch too many. I do figure I'll pump the video back to rear monitors once kids come along. It also features some decent audio controls, including a 7-band EQ (not too shabby). One nice feature is the SD slot, but I doubt I'll use it that much with the iPod always there.

I used the XE double-din bezel. The top of the unit sits back about 1/4", and the bottom about 5/8". I'm going to shim the bottom out a little to even it out, then put some black foam around the back edge of the bezel opening to take up the gap. Right now I'm using the second of seven angled positions to bring the screen out even with the contour of the bezel.

iPod Adapter Install (inside console behind storage bin):

Ran the iPod interface cable through a slot I cut in the console bin, and then mouted an iPod 'clip' up top. Works great!

Video:

Here's a couple videos I took - MP3 playback off the iPod, and Madagascar off DVD:

(Warning -They're a bit large!)

Madagascar

I'll post more on the system as it comes along....

Later!

I've been eyeing that unit. I wish I could buy it. Where did you see it for 525?

Re: JVC AVX706 (6.5" double-din) Installation - Pics & Video

Search on PriceGrabber.com. I just checked and it looks like the price has fluctuated a little, but there are a handful of vendors between $525 & $550. I bought mine from Overstock.com because I was able to flip some accumulated credit card points into a gift certificate and use it there. I ended up paying less than $450 for mine.

Another thing you can try is look around for discount coupons for the vendors who stock it. Overstock.com had some type of 'new customer' deal out there for 10% off, which would knock about $57 off their price and get it down around $525. Do a little digging and you might find a good deal.

Good luck!

Thanks. Not that I know of - JVC has a couple portable Nav units, but I don't think they can interface ala the Alpine IVA-W200 & Blackbird, if at all (most likely the latter).

The best one could opt to do is use the available AV input to send the video through to the display using a laptop or possibly a portable Nav device, but you'd have no control from the HU. Trust me, I would have liked to score an AVIC-Z1, but I couldn't justify one at almost 4x the cost of the AVX706 considering how little I would use the navigation.

Overall, I'm really happy so far. It sounds pretty good with the crummy stock speakers, so I'm really looking forward to a full set of aftermarket speakers and a sub. Also can't wait to wire in the SWI-ALP...I'm missing the steering wheel controls already.

Sure, no problem. There are much more experienced folks here, so I suggest doing some searches for the desired information first. A lot of what you'll need to know is out there somewhere...and if that fails, start up a thread with your questions. Everyone I've dealt with here is friendly and usually will go out of their way to help another member...

Holy SHizzle Sticks...

That's a clean install you've begun....The work with the IPOD is especially nice.

Good work. When will you be in seattle to do mine?

Does this unit have the ability to also have XM input? Either through the RCA input or an adapter? I might be willing to finally give up the ghost on my stock unit for this.
