Question Advice needed for '06 w/RF & backseat DVD

OK, I've been reading up on the Pioneer Avic head units for the past few hours here and at Pioneer.com. I have one question that I have not seen addressed in any other posts when talking about these aftermarket DVD units:

I have the Rockford Fosgate stereo, the dual air, and the rear seat DVD player (actually the screen is in the rear and the player is in the console between the driver and passenger seats). On the Rockford system, there is a dedicated button to turn the rear controls off and on as well as turn the headphones off and on for dual zone control.

If I were to get ANY other aftermarket system, can I keep the rear seat DVD system intact? Could I simply replace the factory player with one of the Avic units but keep the rear screen (and the IR headphone support)?

Also, how about the factory steering wheel controls? Are they gonners?

You will loose all that if you replaced the HU. Everything is tied into it, don't even recalled anyone getting the factory screen to work with and aftermarket dvd player. You will be able to keep the steering wheel control with a Pac Swi-x or similar.

I second that. Although with a skilled installer you should be able to accomplish still being able to keep the rear screen and dvd player. You will have no way of being able to keep rear audio controlls. If any installer is willing a thing I wouldnt expect to pay any less than $4-600 more. Atleast that is what I would charge.

Re: Advice needed for '06 w/RF & backseat DVD

Thanks for the info... OK, I just re-read your posts. I wouldn't mind loosing the rear controls because I guess there is a stand alone remote control for the Avic-Z1 specifically for rear seat zone use (CD-RV1 $15 retail). As long as I could still send the video signal to the rear screen, I'd be fine removing the stock DVD player.
Were you suggesting it may cost me $400 or more for the install of this beast?

I've been shopping around for the parts I may need and found all the add-ons for the Bluetooth (ND-BT1 $110)) and XM (GEX-P920XM $90) and backup camera (ND-BC1 $188) on eBay. The actual HU I am still shopping for. I may opt for a higher priced unit if I can purchase it from an official distributer. So far though, Amazon has a great price on it ($1678) but it can be had for much less on the Internet. As long as I can get an extended warranty, that would be OK I guess.
