System done
Finally, I have everything working correctly and sounding sweet. All I can say is that Ebay had the best deals ever for audio products.
Ended up with:
Head Unit - Pioneer premier Dehp-980BT
Speaker amp - Diamond Audio D6600-4
Sub Amp - Pioneer Premier PRS-D3000spl
Front speakers - Diamond D6 components
Rears - Diamond D6 components
Subs - 2 10" Diamond shallow mount S10D4
Bluetooth
Ipod Adapter
XM adapter
Whole truck interior removed and used spray in V-block
Removing the whole interior and taping everything was kind of a *****, but the results were pretty sweet. I really should put another coat on the whole vehicle, but I'm not tearing everything apart anytime soon. I was actually impressed by the amount of space behind the dash for wires and such. I ended up installing the ipod adapter in the glove box so it is out of sight. All the crossovers went under the drivers seat, along with the XM reciever. I ended up running the antenna up through the 3'rd brake light and onto the roof. The speaker amp went under the passenger seat. Everything looks pretty good, although I need to get a cover for the crossovers and xm adapter so people don't step on it.
Everything sounds fantastic. It took about a day to get all the eq's set right and all the sound leveling, along with all the crossovers. I actually followed the instructions on the diamond products to set the gains on the amplifiers with my multimeter. They said to set the multi-meter to DC voltage, play a test tone at 75% volume (I suppose that is subjective). Tune gains up until DC voltage is present, then back the gains back down a little. I ended up turning the gains back down because it was actually too loud. So, no clipping, and the sound can be ear splitting if I want it.
There were only two things that kind of dissappointed me, and only one of them I believe are product related:
1. The sound quality of XM compared to the IPOD, or the CD isn't as good. I end up having to set up a special EQ just for XM.
2. The different bit rates that I have songs for my ipod create huge differences in sound level when playing back. So I end up playing one song much louder than others, which tends to annoy the **** out of me when the ipod is on shuffle and after listening to AC/DC at a moderate volume, it shuffles to Devorak Symphony #9 at deafening levels.
I've installed quite a few systems in cars and was really impressed with the lack of rattles in the truck after install. The only thing I can hear outside the truck is the cab baffle fluttering when hard bass hits.
Anyway, that was it. Sorry for the long post.
