Need Amp help

I recently bought two Infinity Kappa Perfects 10.1 350w RMS 1400W peak @ 4ohm subs and need help on which amp I should hook up to it. I have head that you can bridge them down to 2ohms and run a mono powerblock amp to them such as a Memphis 16 MCD500.

I need to know what I am looking for as far as ohms/watts.

Please let hear your sugguestions, thanks.

Re: Need Amp help

Do you know if you subs are dual voice coil or not? and are they 2ohm or 4 ohm, and how much money do you want to spend?

If they are single 4 ohm subs. that memphis amp will work great and it is bulletproof.

Re: Need Amp help

Yeah the memphis would be a good buy. I have had many memphis products and I have always been pleased with them. I am currently using the older version of that amp and it works great.

Re: Need Amp help

Remember the lower the ohm rating you run your subs the harder the amp works......Cheap amps really have a problem handling low ohm loads...since the load is constantlychanging.....The Memphis should be good to go. Personally I wouldn't use one to chaulk my wheels.....However, they will work just fine for most.

Re: Need Amp help

Lizardking,

Why do you bust on everyone else choice of components?

Just because you pay crazy loot for your Arc Audio and DLS Noblelium doesn't mean they're the best.

BTW.. Your Kenwood Headunit would make a nice paperweight for my desk when it burns up

Because I can.... I don't bust....just offer real world advice....don't read it if you can't take the heat. The prices I see people pay on here....they can often get some of the top brands on the market for the same price or maybe a few dollars more. Also, no your role! At no time did I say that DLS or Arc Audio is the best.........the best is subjective. Many brands offer great performance. I can talk about several issues both DLS and Arc have....even Rainbow. I also didn't pay crazy loot for either of those brands.......well maybe the Rainbow....but there in a leaque all by themselves. I paid less from my subs then I see people on here pay for ther Audiobahns....LOL. If you know people you can get really good deals on the elite brands. I've posted these facts several times.

Also, what I posted you felt the urge to comment on....is a fact! Sorry my friend...do yourself a favor and research. Its not the hard to do!

Speaking of the Kenwood.....I'll take it anyday over anything else on the market thats a DVD screen...but with limited choices....what else can a brother do?

Pioneers- preouts constantly burn out
Eclipse- has gone way down hill. They still have some decent decks though
Alpine- well we all know they went down hill. The DVA-9965 is the only one I would take.

Re: Need Amp help

I really do appreciate your advice, as I'm sure others do too. Same goes for me. Don't read it if you can't take some heat too.

I was only commenting on the chaulking of the wheels comment. Others posted and said the amp would be fine????

Well then, I guess my preouts will burn up eventually..

Re: Need Amp help

I think something that you should always remember when giving out advice on amps is; The difference between no amp and a cheap amp is tremendous, the difference between a cheap amp and a good amp is pretty big, the difference between a good amp and a great amp is noticable, and the difference between the great amp and the best amp is marginal. The effect is opposite on the pricetag.

When someone asks for a good amp in the $150 price range then try to suggest the best thing in that range. When someone asks me if I think a camry is a good car, its not fair to say "no its horrible, you need to get an aston martin"

But Lizard is right about the prices of quality stuff, If you look hard enough you can get top end stuff for less than the cheap stuff at the dealers. The $200 you spend on a visonik could get you a Zapco if your patient enough

i have issues with every dvd player on the market. i prefer the z1 but only because it offers more in the terms of playback and memory. None of them have a great pre amp because they have all the circuitry tied up with dvd and nav functions.the pioneer stuff only burns outputs if they are unpluugged while the unit is on. the switched power supplies a few years back and if the rca loose ground while on, it burns its self out. there is a really simple fix for this if it happens to you. ground the shield on your rcas to the back of the head unit. which is not a bad idea to start with if you are installing your unit for the first time.
simply put you can find something wrong with any brand if you look hard enough. My policy is all car audio is overpriced junk. Some just work better than others. There has not been a major breakthrough in car audio since the cd player . The z1 and others like it with built in harddrives are the closest thing to it but not close enough. . everything else is just someone taking someone elses design and making it better.

I still prefer some of my pld amps and component speakers . i love my old(before dei owned them) a/d/s 320 is mids and tweets 500 dollars retail in 1993 and they still sound great today. i even have the a set of matching 6. 5 inch subs that could easiely be mounted in the floorboard and were true sub woofers. The good ole days.when iasca judging was from both seats and spl did not even count on your score.
