I just finished installing an Avic D2 double din nav/cd system. I took apart the dash (both bezels), both front knee panels, the gauge surround bezel, glovebox, right front kick panel, and removed the entire center console. I also had the battery unhooked for some time.
I had a lot of stuff to install, yes, but the only things that got hooked into the factory wiring were the reverse and speed sensor. I used a new harness for the radio pwr/ground etc plugs and disconnected the three plugs that went to the old factory radio. Everything went back together easily and there didn't seem to be any problems. I tested the radio/startup sequence after reinstalling just about every panel.
Now there are two problems.
- The dome light does not work when the drivers side door is opened. Even if I remove the pin on the door jamb and ground it out. Dome light works fine when any other door is opened.
- I cannot get the keyless entry remotes to work again. I have tried to reprogram them with the "putting the key in the ignition 8x" instructions but no luck - the parking lights never flash. The power door locks still work with the switch and the key. And the parking lights work fine from the switch.
Any ideas where to start looking to track this down? Could I have missed a plug/harness on the reinstall? Or did I royally screw something up? There was one white plug that didn't have a match. It was very close to the HVAC control plugs behind the center dash bezel. Also worth noting was that the ground from the factory harness was very weak and wouldn't operate the D2. I had to create a new ground connection for the D2 bypassing the factory harness. I thought that was odd.
BTW I used to be a professional installer about 10 years ago so I know my way around car electronics... I wasn't in there just hacking away. The whole install was done neat and clean. But I'm clueless where to start looking for this problem.
Thanks,
Patrick
