8" Kicker Solobaric L7 subs in rear door of King Cab
I am thinking of ditching my rears in my 5.1 setup since I never seem to use them in favor of 2 kicker solobaric l7s in the rear door. I would be fiberglassing a box inside the door and stealth mounting them behind the door panel.
Before I start placing orders, lend me your opinions. Do you forsee any problems? the subs will be directly facing each other, should I reverse phase one? Do you think I would rattle the panel off? I have never used any solobarics, although I have heard the 10s, 12s, and 15s, in other vehicles I have never heard the 8s. I will be pushing them with a 1000w crossfire amp.
The reason I am doing this is I cannot put a box under the rear seats as I put cargo there, computers and dogs mainly. So I am looking for a good bass alternitive. I have tried a slim 10 under the drivers seat, and currently have 2 eu-700s under the drivers seat but its just not enough.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!! I have done it in another vehicle and it sounds awfull. and yes you are about to have to fight so much rattle and the sound is not good. i did in an expedition front doors for a falcons player. and ended up pulling them out.

Do you have any other suggestions for me then? Any way I can make it work? As far as I can tell I am out of options.

l7s have so much movement and they are so heavy. it just is not a good idea.

I might as well use the eu-700s if I am going wtih the 6w0, I just don't feel I will get anywhere with those. I want actual bass, not just the bare minimum. That is why the l7 seemed like a good idea to me.

Do you have captain chairs or a bench? Perhaps building a closure up front in the vehicle if you have a bench. Requires dampening of course in problems areas but we aren't talking about a complete modification of a factory pieces, (i.e. door panel).
If you have the captain chairs, consider the center console area. Most modifications of center console pieces are forgiving due to the cost is less for a replacement the and the true modifcation would be the innards of piece not the exterior shell.

I have the captains chairs. Thanks for the suggestion, but I have thought about that already and I use my center console way to much to sacrifice it.

You may want to try another setup under your front seat. I could not imagine subs in the rear doors sounding much better. If you want to give it a wack I recommend 8" subs fully fiberglassed. You will need to deaden the crap out of your doors. I would deaden the inner wall, the outer wall and I would also use a paint on deadener on the backside of the plasitic door panel itself. I would test the door to see if it can handle the weight first. Throw some weight in the doors and leave it in for a week or so. The good thing is the King Cab has short rear doors so leverage won't work agianst you, the bad thing is they open 168 degrees. I personally cannot stand the sound of 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, etc. Not in my home or any of my vehicles. I am a stereo guy. If you have your front components taken care of I don't think you will miss the rears too much. If you don't mind being the guinea and testing this out I give you the go ahead but it may end up being a lot more work than its worth.

You could check out the new ES06+ by CDT. Those are suposed to be very impressive. You would still be able to keep the door somewhat normal because its only a 6.5 but would give you more output than most 6.5's. I'm sure you'd still have to do a lot of work to deaden the door no matter what you put back there if you dont want the doors to rattle off.
Re: 8" Kicker Solobaric L7 subs in rear door of King Cab
I put 8" mtx subs in my front doors of my 01 dakota. Had a 10" behind my seat but had to remove for my roll cage. Thought the 8's would be a good replacement but a good set of oversized 6 1/2 midbass would have made a better choice. Alot of rattle(with doors dynamatted) and they bottom out making snapping sounds whenever I try to adjust for lots of low fill. I even have 150rms going to each. I found for the best sound I ended up by having to run them full range and taking away some of the 60hz with my alpine deck. My dog will have to suffer because my 2 10's I have now are going under my rear seat of my kc titan. SHAKING DA DOG, SHAKING DA DOG!

Well I am open to suggestions. It sounds like the 8s in the doors are a bad idea. So what can I do next then? I need the bed so blow thru is out of the question.
