Amp Rack questions

After looking over Sammy Sandbag's sticky on his install, I'm completely stoked about putting my amp behind the seat on my Kingcab.

When I look at my seat though, it seems like there is absolutely no room between it and the sheetmetal wall, it looks like it's bolted to the wall! Has anyone created an amp rack or mounted anything else back there? Did they change the design for the '07?

Also, how would you mount the rack to the wall? Run sheetmetal screws through the wall so they stick out the other side?

Thanks again for all of your great commentary on how to do all this stuff, I may be getting a bit spoiled and asking before I try it myself...but this is my first new vehicle, I really hate to start drilling and screwing into things without knowing for sure first.

Re: Amp Rack questions

The King Cab has less room behind the rear seat. You probably will not have room for an amp rack. I would install the amps directly to the rear wall. You will need to remove the rear seat to do this. Drilling through the rear wall is not going to hurt anything.

Re: Amp Rack questions

I'd be a little nervous to do that... how would you seal up the holes after the fact??

Re: Amp Rack questions

I suppose you could always weld them back sealed. Personaly I would not do it this way, put the amps under one of the front seats! They will have more room to breathe and you won't have screws sticking out the back of your cab.

Re: Amp Rack questions

If your worried about sealing use some silicone. The holes will not leak water. Under the front seats is a good location for amps but for those with larger amps the rear wall is great. Niether one of my amps will fit under the front seats.

Re: Amp Rack questions

I have my ARC XXK 2500 under one of the front seats but its just a little too long. I'd like the back wall but I also like to keep the seats up and I think that makes the seat back even closer to the rear wall.

Indeed, I hate to drill through my fresh sheetmetal...though it would act as a badass heatsink... anyhow, ya under the seat...

It's a big ole amp, I'll have to look and see. I seriously doubt if my capacitor will fit under there...and even if it did, it's exposing itself to short circuit on anything metal dropped down there.... and a fuse ain't gonna cut it out before it catches the truck on fire.

Does anyone know where I can find a mod for a fire suppression system?

You will not have a problem with the seats up. I test fit my amps and they are large. I did not have any probles reguardless of the seat position.

Re: Amp Rack questions

Throw the capacitor in the bed. Not gonna help your amps much anyway.

Re: Amp Rack questions

Here is another option but it involves modifying the seat back of the rear bench. There's room for an amp rack, here's one example if you do not want to build yourself, http://audioformz.com/ampracks.asp.

Yes, this does involve some modding but as I put in an earlier post, if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Here's kind of an example of getting into the back of the seat.

Really? I'm not that experienced with caps, is it overkill for my kicker old school 1000 watt?
