I will also be forward firing mine, as soon as I have time to make a new box that fits under my lifted rear seats. Here's why: If given a choice between aiming your speakers directly at your ears vs any other direction, why wouldn't you want to aim them directly at your ears? That's the most clear, accurate way, even at bass frequencies. Forward firing is aimed much closer to directly at your ears than down firing.
You'll surely still hear bass just fine in a down fired setup, but it will be at least somewhat restricted and affected by restricted frequency propagation and air flow due to the small space and your carpet.
Nothing wrong with down fired, I just prefer the better accuracy and efficiency of forward fired.
My 2 cents anyway.
Edit: tech12volt might have another opinion on this ...
Both sets of subs that I've had have been upfiring and Tech built both boxes. My question about forward firing is because you have to be extremely careful with your rear seat cargo as well as your rear seat passengers and making sure they don't kick your speakers. Personally, I'd rather avoid the headache.

I prefer forward firing to allow for a deeper speaker. jl 10w3v3 is nearly 6 inches deep. my rf he 10's are 6.25 inches deep. jl 10w7 is 8 inches. I could extend the front face of the box out to accomodate the speaker depth.

TECH 12's Kicker 10" L7, 6 1/4" mounting depth, boxes are forward firing. I have not installed mine yet, but here they are loud. Will there be enough air space for the W3's?
I am going to build the box to include the space from the front edge of the rear seat all the way as far back as I can to the rear wall. It came out to 1.49 internal volume. It is a funky shape to say the least but it should work. It will be a challenge to separate the two chambers but should still be about .70 per chamber. w3's require .625.

I re-read what I wrote & realize that I again sound like a pecker. I get defensive when trying to argue my point. Sorry about that. I do need to grow up.

No worries, man. I just didn't want to see you pissed off when some drunk girl gets in the backseat of your truck and put her heel through your woofers hahah.

In my days of runing sound competitions, most woofers setups are placed to where the wookers allow the bass to "reflex" off another object. most setups in trunks face the rear of the vehicle or up against the back of the rear set.. which allows the bass to rebound off surfaces which actually produces more dramatic affects. this is why a bandpass box sounds the way it does... you could take crap speakers, put them in a custom made, ported bandpass box and they will slam... the same goes for a down firing box... in an open air vehicle like a truck, one of the best ways to position woofers is in the confined space down firing under the rear seat.... this allows for the bass to reflex off the floor... this provides a deeper sounding system.....
i am looking to place 2 12inch CVX's under my rear seat in a down firing sealed box... so i will most likley be looking to do this mod in my crew cab.... but i really don't have to because i found a box that will fit.. but i might have a box custom built if i can lift my rear seats...
