I am thinking of doing a 3way active up front setup, but haven't decided yet. If I do go 3 way what are the suggestions for placement of the drivers? Here are a few different options I can think of.
1. Woofer in the door, midrange in the kickpanel, tweeter in either the dash or A pillar
2.Woofer in the door, midrange in the kickpanel, tweeter in the kickpanel
3.Woofer in the door, midrange and tweeter in the A pillar
4.woofer in the door, midrange factory tweeter location, tweeter in the a pillar
5.woofer in the door, midrange and tweeter in the kick, a 2nd tweet in the stock dash location
For the speakers... I haven't decided yet, I have a focal k2p 3 way set, and a rainbow vanadium 3 way set, and a lotus/dayton/3 way setup that I will audition and choose my favorite.
What is the frequency range of the woofer/mid? Do you have enough depth to fit the mid in the a-piller? What are you running for x-overs?
I think I can fit the mid in the A pillar, the mid is 1.5" our pillars have about that for depth. For xovers I have an h701 4 way active xover, DTA, 30 band graphic EQ, 7 band parametric... this unit is awesome. I don't know exactly but I think I would only run the mid down to maybe 400hz and up to 4000.
I think TX did something like that with a mid in the a-pillar he said it was really difficult to make sound good.
The good thing is that the a-pillar plastic is cheap so if you dont like it you can replace it.

3-Way is usually more difficult than it is worth. Install and Align. I prefer 2-Way with a woofer that has a wider frequency range.
I am having a local shop put 2 L7s in the rear doors of my KC.
Hey Grunge, go over on the "other" forum and check out Griffeys install. He put rainbow 8's in his KC rear doors. It looked pretty simple, you should give it a shot. I do think that round would be a lot easier than square though....

Yep thats what I've heard! I have never messed with them personally because it always seems like such a pain to find good mounting locations for the mids.
Or make custom Fiberglass pods and put Woof,Mid,Tweet all close together in the kicks. Maybe you could get away with putting the woof in the door.
Just rememeb whatever yo select may sound alot different in your truck than in the store, esp if the speakers are in boxes and your going to do IB in the doors.
