Want to hook up a bass tube

I have a bass tube in my ZX2 that I'd like to drop into the Titan, under the rear bench. It is just an 8, but it gives a nice rounded mid and low range sound. The problem is that I had it directly connected to the battery, and it was causing the battery to go dead. How can I get around this when I put it in the truck?

I'm looking for a chrome bug shield and a sub box for under the rear bench seat. Please PM me if you have one / know where one can be located.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

Does it have a ign. lead where it cut power off when you turn the vehicle off? Shouldn't draw any power when the vehicle is off.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

It does not have any remote turn on feature, I assume?

If no remote turn on feature, you can use a relay sized to handle the current requirements of the bass tube.

You could wire the trigger lead of the relay such that power would not be supplied to the bass tube when the ignition was turned off. For example, you could use a toggle switch from the passenger side lighter socket circuit (for example by using a Littel Fuse Mini-Blade Add A Circuit) to supply power to the relay trigger lead when the switch is on. But even when the switch is turned on, the passenger side lighter socket circuit goes off with the ignition, so the relay would turn off with the ignition. The switch would allow you to turn the tube off when the ignition is on, if so desired. Note that the trigger lead of the relay would draw minimal current, less than 1 amp.

What is an ignition lead? Mechanically inclined I am. Electrically inclined I am not.

I was thinking of hooking one of the power lines to a fuse... which fuse would work, radio or ignition? And is there a fuse box under the driver's side kick panel?

Well, I could definitely do that. I am concerned about A) running the wiring out of sight and B) connecting the bass tube to speakers, or whatever else needs to be connected to get the sound to the tube.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

Ign. lead are lead (wire or fuse) that only has power when the ign. is on.
Power bass tube have a built in amp, you hook it up like a normal amp.
Power line goes to battery, ign. lead goes to an ign. source (only has power when ign. is on). That way when you shut the truck off, the amp. inside the bass tube goes off and not drain your battery. Like bestatchess stated, if you don't have an ign lead than use a relay in line with your power line.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

Is it a bazooka tube? Depending which model you have, it will either have a remote turn on wire or a jumper that you can move for auto turn on. I think on the bazooka's the wire is either orange or white.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

I do not know the make but I don't believe it has remote on of any kind.

I still do not know what an ignition lead is or where it connects to. There is no ignition lead labeling on the tube or on any part of my truck that I have observed. Sorry for my ignorance in the subject and thank you in advance for breaking it down Barney style.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

Here are some posts I made about it awhile back:

http://www.titantalk.com/forums/660336-post14.html

Here is the entire thread:
Who's Got A Bazooka Tube?

The Bazooka's have a yellow loop that makes it auto-turn on/off..when it detects sound, it will turn on; when no sound detected, it turns off.

Re: Want to hook up a bass tube

If there is not Ign Lead, then you can wire the power wire with a relay, it will be a PITA though IMO, unless you don't need to power it with large gauge wire.

Power to Relay.
HU Power wire to Relay.

Relay Power out to Tube.

Then when your HU powers up the Tube will turn on.

To dig this one out of the grave, as I am attempting this soon:

What color wier is power, and where is it being spliced from?

What kind of relay do you recommend?

Where is the HU power wire being spliced from?

Thanks

Andrew
