Well my package I ordered from Tech came in yesterday. I just couldnt wait for the weekend so I started installing it last night. An bonus for me it came with an FM modulator(not sure where it needs to connect thought only one audio out and it connects to the monitor). This is the first time to install this system. I am sure it's not like installing a deck.
The removal of the upper console for the monitor was easy. Just required a the removal of two screws and a little brute force to break the front clips free. Replacing the flip down console for the monitor is only a few screws so its really easy. I pulled the weather stripping and pushed the cable to the overhead console opening and then ran it down the driver side A piler. From there ran it across the floor. That was the easy part. Remember to leave your monitor a little slack so it ca flip down.
Taking the center console apart was a little tricky. If you dont have a set of hex head's for alot of screws you not getting this thing apart. (All so I have black carpet so dont drop the black crews or you will spend way to much time looking for them). Lucky for me I happen to have the right tools.(Thankfully I have cheap relatives that gave me dollar store tool sets). The Hex heads, philips head and a couple of small sockets are really all you need for the demo and reinstall of the console. I took the back panel of the center console to run the wires. The carpet has a little play in it so pushing the wires under the carpet was not an issue.
Now comes the fun part (not really) mounting the dvd player to the center console sleeve. This took me about two hours last night trying to fab the brackets that dont quite fit the dvd player. I had to drill out the mounting brackets which was a PITA. You will need to cut a hole in the bottom of the concole to run the wires through. I cut a small hole an then pushed them through a couple of wires at a time. You could cut a large hole but then you might start loosing the stuff in your center console. REMEMBER TO DOUBLE CHECK ALL MEASUREMENT WHEN CUTTING AND DRILLING THE CENTER CONSOLE your only going to get one try unless you have an extra console.
My adventures will continue tonight when I hook up all the wires and find all the power supplies and grounds. I will post pics when I am done.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
I am looking forward to seeing some pics. I think I may get the same setup you have but am concerned about connecting wiring to the factory wiring harness. Good luck hope it turns out. Pops says it is a pretty easy install. Can't wait to see your final setup.

little side note on the brackets. I use 3m velcro and cover the entire bootom of the player . clean where you are going to stick it with alcohal first. And then stick it down. this stuff holds like s.o.b and no screws are drilled into the console.Jus in case some of you do not want to drill holes in your console.

Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
Can't wait to see your install pictures.
I'm a little confused. You said it came with an FM Modulator. Are you going to use the FM Modulator or are you going to hard wire the audio into your deck? Are you running the factory deck or an aftermarket one?
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
NICE!!!!! In case anyone does find themselves needing to buy another console, the DVD console is the exact same price as the non-DVD. I found this out when some installers had destroyed mine so I had them buy me new parts (including the 8 screws they lost) to redo the install myself and made a quick write-up.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
FourDoor,
I have a factory HU. I am not planning on hadwiring the dvd to the system as I really dont want to listen to a movie I cant watch(all the movies my daughter watches right now are disney anyway). I am not for sure I am going to hook up the FM modulator but I may for that just in case rainy day.
Tech,
do you still drill out a hole for the wires?
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
I'm still waiting for my M&D kit.
Any idea what this plug is? I found it when I replaced my rear lights with LEDs and was wondering if it's possible it's the DVD cable? It's about where the M&D monitor will go. As far as I can tell it's got two wires.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
Yep. The big plug in the foreground is for the HU controls. I finally figured out it's not for the DVD from a picture on ebay for an 04-06 overhead monitor.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
Well, if you decide to really get after it finding that harness, the pics in this thread shows exactly where you'll find it if it's there. If this one isn't there, none of the others will be either because this is the Root connection for them.
I've updated the Sticky list in the "How To" section so hopefully you guys should be able to find everything you need. Feel free to copy any of my posts to over here if you find them helpful and edit them to make easier to follow, llajumpvid is the Master Wizard behind all of this DVD wiring stuff.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
OK..I fianlly got the install complete last night. All the wiring was pretty straight forward. The RCA cables are color coded. I tapped into the rear power outlet for the ACC and the front driver outlet for constant 12v. and grounded everything to the rear power outlet. I verified every thing with a volt meter and recommend everyone do the same as not all the trucks are the same.
One side note pull the fuses when you cut the wires for the power outlets unless you just like shock therapy.
1st pic is just the empty console. You need to remove the two screws.
2nd pic is the back of empyt console. Remove screws and insert monitor.
3rd & 4th pic is cables for monitor I pushed them across the roof down the drivers side A-pilar
5th pic - unless you buy the dvd mount center console. Mounting the player is a pain in the A$$
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
Thanks Pops..It really was easier than I thought it was going to be.
I am a little upset, I split the RCA's for two outputs and hooked up the fm mod. and a aux. and I have alternator noise throught both. Not sure how to get rid of it.
Re: Myron and Davis 8.5" Flip Down and DVD Install
Alternator whinning is usually from insufficient grounding. Check your grounds and run ground wires to additional ground points if you need to, especially for the player.
