Sub under the front seat???

Here's what i'm thinking about. Has anyone tried to install a small say 8" sub under the front seat? I want to add some bass to my truck, but I don't want to lose the space under my rear seat. If no one has tried it maybe I'll have to pioneer this idea. One question, under my passenger side front seat is a vent of some sort. What does this go to? Part of the ac system or something? And what would it hurt if I covered it up.

Thanks
Scooter

Re: Sub under the front seat???

Factory Fosgate has an 8" sub under the drivers seat. Waste of time and space. Muddiest factory sub ever made...

Re: Sub under the front seat???

I know that the RF equipped trucks came with one, but my truck didn't have that option, and I've heard some bad things about that unit anyway. Does anyone know of an enclosure/box made to fit under the front seat that I can purchase, or will I have to make the box myself? I want to fit an 8" under there because I already have 2 Kicker Comp. VRs that were in my last truck and was hoping that I could use one of them and possibly save me some money.

Re: Sub under the front seat???

You can fit an 8 or a slim 10. It won't be much bass but definately more than you have now.

what about one under both fronts? Yea the fosgate that came in my truck is typical factory cheapo crap, but it sounds better than any other truck factory stereo. I would be interested too, or maby a verticle style box in place of the small rear seat i took out behind my driver seat in my kingcab. (put tools and stuff on floor) I dont like anyone sitting behind myu driver seat anyways cause its all the way back. You think of somthing like that Smoke?

Re: Sub under the front seat???

If you want actual bass you need to install a sub under the rear seat. One side, two sides, whatever.

Re: Sub under the front seat???

I am happy with the two Pioneer slim 10"s that I installed under both front seats. Not heart pounding, eardeafening like some people like , but I like it. I guess I have gotten older, and value the space under the rear seat . there was a time not that long ago that the rear seat would be in my garage!!! It gets loud enough for my wife to tell me to turn it down.

Re: Sub under the front seat???

BigBlue, wondering if you have any pics of your install. Did you make your own box or did you purchase it from somewhere. I think putting some 8's under my front seats is the route I'm going to take and now I'm just looking for installation ideas.

Re: Sub under the front seat???

Made them myself. I believe there is a pic or two in my photo gallery. I am very happy with them. I did have to block off the heater ducts only because I made them as big as I could. Looking into the MTX Re-Q to help the factory deck out. Other than that I think they sound good.

That's a heater vent for the rear passengers. I think you're probably better off routing it under, around, or through your box so that you don't get a bunch of heat buildup down there during the winter time.

Re: Sub under the front seat???

I used the RF sub encloser that the truck came with, and add an real sub in it. Then just tapped it for some wire to run the the amp... worked good for me... then I'm not into going deaf anymore, but more base then the stock crap put out.
