Re: Any SoCal Guys Want To Help Me Install My System? FREE BEER!

Here is the finished front door. An interesting thing here was the doors had two different speakers. I wonder if one had been replaced before I bought the truck.

Re: Any SoCal Guys Want To Help Me Install My System? FREE BEER!

Now I just need to get the Cleansweep mounted. I fabbed a little shelf under the glove box. Then I need to mount the amp and crossovers and make the overlay, and drill the firewall for the power cable. Maybe I'll find some time to get it done next weekend.

Re: Travelship's install

Nice job man,
I think in 05 they upped the power of the RF amp and that could be why one is different. Maybe it blew and they replaced it with an 05 model.

Re: Travelship's install

Well, I did something wrong with the shifter when I put the center console back in. The P on the dash display won't light up and it won't crank over. I put it in neutral and I have to jiggle the lever until the N lights up and then it will start, so I must have assembled the shift linkage incorrectly. Time to reread the console removal thread and pull the seats and console out again to fix it. Bummer!

Edit--Looks like I don't have to remove the whole console to fix it, just the shifter.

Re: Travelship's install

Fixed the shifter, the spring clip holding the shift cable had come loose on side. Everything's good now, truck starts.

Finished installing the Cleansweep. I attached a piece of angle aluminum to the little tab on the fan blower assembly, then made a masonite shelf to sit on the angle at the back and attaches at the front to the plastic lip under the glove box door. Very solid, the only thing is I have to remove the Cleansweep to remove the glove box in the future.

Started on the amp rack overlay, got about a hour and half into it before I violated the measure twice/cut once rule. Long story short...I need to get another piece of masonite and start over. Can't work on it tomorrow, so it'll have to wait until next weekend.

Re: Travelship's install

I'm working on it again today. The overlay is done, I just need to install it in the truck. It's been 10 years since I carpeted anything and my seams on the corners could be a little better, but other than that I think it looks pretty good. I have about 40 hrs in it now, but I should be able to finish the job today.

Re: Travelship's install

Thanks Diz! I've studied all of your install pics and my goal was to make my install look as good as yours. I think it's gone well, I'm getting excited about hearing the system now.

Re: Travelship's install

The saga continues...Everything is in, but I have a few problems. There is no radio reception, I must have forgotten to plug the antenna lead into the head unit or didn't push it in all the way. I will pull the head unit again and fix it and check my connections because the right front channel has no sound. Calibration failed on that channel, says insufficient input signal. My head unit worked fine before and all my connections are soldered and heatshrinked, so I don't think that's the problem. I bought the Cleansweep used, and I think it's defective. Short of swapping it out for another one, the only way I can think of to troubleshoot is to unplug the input connector and check for signal voltage with the multimeter. Does anyone know how to check balanced outputs for voltage? Both wires hot and positive probe to them and negative probe to chassis ground? I don't want to damage the head unit by doing it improperly. Also, I had meant to trim my amp rack down on the drivers side and never did. Now the bottom rear pillar plastic finisher won't fit because it hits the amp rack behind the rear wall felt. I have to try to figure out a way to trim it in place so I don't have to pull everything out again. Anyway, it's sounds good considering it's missing one channel in the front stage, the ID tweets sound nice. The sub is simply amazing. While it's no SPL contest winner, it definitely has a presence, nice and tight, just the way I like it. It absolutely pounds if you put your head up by the windshield. Here are some more pics...

Re: Travelship's install

Since your clean sweep is so easily accessible I'd try and switch Chanel's and see if that works. That will tell you if its the clean sweep or something before it. What I'm saying is if you have sound from the right side but not the left. Plug the right RCA into the LEFT input on the Clean Sweep.
