Alternator noise from cigarette lighter outlets

When I plug in an MP3 player or my laptop that has a cigarette lighter adaptor and connect it to the aux port on my stereo i get a bad alternator whine. Is there a filter I can install to help this?

Re: Alternator noise from cigarette lighter outlets

Thats the million dollar question. All i know....is anytime i ever had that noise it was a bad ground. Maybe try to make the grounds on your plug touch better. You have to look at your power source you are using.....not optimal for audio at all. You could hardwire it in if you planned on keeping it.

Re: Alternator noise from cigarette lighter outlets

Hmmm. Maybe I can ground the outlets somewhere else and see if that helps.

Maybe....then again someone else MAY chime in and tell you a filter or better way to rig it up. Good luck.

Re: Alternator noise from cigarette lighter outlets

I have the same problem with my new stereo head unit.
Mine sounds like spark plug noise.
Anybody have a solution?
