Tweeter Location?

I just got 2 set of CDT components for the truck. Where are you guys putting your tweets at? I was either thinking in the dash or up high on the pillars. I figured I'd ask what worked the best from you guy's that have already has systems installed in there trucks.

Re: Tweeter Location?

What model did you get?

The dash will work OK but in the A-pillars will make the tweeters sound the best. It will take some of the harshness out of the sound and make the sound blend across the glass rather than just 2 spots on the glass.

These are my older CDT tweeters. You could probably also fit them on the narrow part near the glass.

I've since upgraded them to the ES-01's

I use to have mine mounted in the original factory location I noticed that he sounded kinda flat. I later had them mounted in the A-pillar and its like night and day sound quality wise.

The problem with the factory location in any car that has the tweeters pointing up towards the glass is that it creates hot spots on the glass. Tweeters are very directional. So if you have them pointed straight up they reflect off the glass at weird angles. If you have the sound flow across the glass like in an a-pillar it uses the glass kinda like a stage would and makes it soundstage much wider with no hot spots.

Re: Tweeter Location?

I am still debating on the doors or the A pillars. I seen some pics of Tech's installs and he had the tweets close to the mid's. Components are CDT CL 61A. Im just trying to do it once, but I guess I am going to try an experiment with diffrent locations before I mount them up.

Re: Tweeter Location?

Here is the cool thing about the CDT crossovers that come with the CL set.
You can actually run 2 sets of tweeters!

http://www.cdtaudio.com/classic_comp_08.htm

You should mount the tweeter close to the mid, this is call "on axis" this will give you the best imaging. However because the interior of the titans is so large and the speakers are so close to the floor it will sound funny to have all the sound coming from the "floor" so you can purchase an extra set of tweeters and mount those in the a-pillar off the "image tweeter" output. This will give you the best of both worlds. PM James and ask him for a price. You might also want to add a LP-1 so that you can adjust the level to make it match better.
