Re: how to build a custom sub box?

OK here's the deal. If you have never built a sub box before, chances are that the first few you build will not be very good.

That said, If you have the time to waste then go for it, but it is a long procedure and there is a lot of fitting and modifying and refitting involved.

The box rarely ends up fitting as you imagine it will fit, and its tougher than you think to build an attractive box, never mind a functioning one.

Well built boxes are also costly to build especially if you are buying the materials to build just the one box. There is wood, fasteners, fiberglass, spray glue, carpet etc..

Building a box start to finish can easily take the whole day (8 hours) if not more and can be a frustrating experience, but also very rewarding if it fits and looks like you imagined.

There is also the smells you will have in your truck after the build from the fiberglass and glues drying and a lot of vacuuming to be done to your carpet and the box itself, and try not to get any glue in your truck carpet and seats when test fitting it.

I have built many boxes and it is really not a task I enjoy at all. I just built one tiny box for under my front seat and I was laughing afterwards because I knew it would have been cheaper just to buy it from Tech12volt.

When I upgrade this spring to a full system, you can bet your *** I will be buying, NOT building.....

Re: how to build a custom sub box?

Step 1: Measure the crap out of the inside of your truck where you want to put the box.

Step 2: Cut wood

Step 3: Put wood together

Step 4: Sand the crap out of it to make it nice!

Step 5: Seal inside so it sounds perfect when done.

Step 6: Put more of it together.

Step 7: Sand it smooth like a baby's butt.

Step 8: Test fit it in the truck.

Step 9: Toss that one in the dumpster cuz it doesn't fit....

Step 10: Start over.

Step 11: Have your lackey cut holes for subs and wiring.

Step 12: Add logo.

Step 13: Cover box with selected material.

Step 14: Swear like a sailor trying to stretch the material over the complicated corners you designed into the box.

Step 15: Cut out openings for subs.

Step 16: Be a professional... Cover the back too.

Step 17: Add subs.

Step 18: Toss away all 14 of your attempts and go to Tech12volts.com and order one that's made better than any other on the market!

Step 19: Install in truck. Have a beer.

Step 20: Intersperse various activities throughout the build such as drinking beer, playing with dog, running boys to baseball practice, having a stogie or two, or any other activities of your preference....

Step 21: Come on here, post pictures, and tell others how awesome your new tech12volts box sounds!!!!!

table saw, fine cutting blade for table saw, miter attachment for table saw, router, router bits, circle jig for router, square, clamps, a couple of sanders, drill, wood glue, mdf, carpet (or vinyl or maybe have it line-Xd), spray adhesive for the carpet, T-nuts & screws, terminal cups, wire, silicone sealant (let it cure good or the fumes will eat your subs) or fiberglass resin, work table, safety glasses, dust masks, maybe some polyfil, shop vac to collect large amounts of dust

I think that's most of it. Oh, and plans that fit the truck and the air space requirements for your chosen subs.

I am a little faster than 8 hours and mine normally fit. LOLThe first few you build never look like you wanted

Re: how to build a custom sub box?

I have been measuring under my seat and finding it only to be about 12 inches deep. How are people getting 12 inch subs in a CC. Does the box stick out from under the seat?

Re: how to build a custom sub box?

You generally have about 6-5/8" mounting depth when it's all said and done. Stay at that limit or use a shallower sub and you should be alright.

I didnt mean the hight under the seat I have that ok. But I am trying to figure out how peeps are getting 12 inch subs. I have only been able to measure the length under the seat of about 12 inchs. The width is good. But just trying to figure out how everyone been doing it.
