EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

37,000 miles on the Titan and it was suffering from warped rotors, so I decided to upgrade the brakes.

I ordered EBC 3GD Dimpled and Slotted Sport Rotors and Greenstuff 7000 Pads. Because I have never done rotors before I decided to only tackle the fronts first.

Thanks to the awesome write ups on this site I didn't have any problem. And because I was so excited performing this upgrade I totally forgot to take pictures before I had put the wheels back on.

So far, I've only driven about 80 miles on these new rotors and pads but they are an great upgrade! Also, according to the EBC website, the way the slots are cut in the rotors there is a sweet sound under braking.

As you can see from the picture of the old rotor there was some uneven wear on the inboard side. I also noticed that the inboard pads were almost completely worn, while the outboard pads were almost unworn. Is this normal for our trucks?

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

I am sure you will be very happy with the EBC pads and rotors. I have used them on a few cars and always loved them. I will be upgrading the Titan to them soon as well. I will be using the Red pads though.

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

Congratulations on the upgrade-a huge improvement.

I'm considering getting the stainless steel braided lines from Stillen! (A Christmas present to myself!)

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

The uneven pad wear sounds like your slider bolts needed lubed, did you lube them when you re-assembled them?

Actually I did, having taken most of my pointers from a post on this site about performing a brake job.

As an update... what a difference a good set of rotors and pads make.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...... and not to poo poo on Stillen, but the Stillen brake lines are ONLY for stock trucks... Any amount of lift, including your mini-lift, and they will be too short..... I already tried to buy them...

Now I ask you the sense in that? What's the point of having SS braided brake lines for stock trucks? Who's gonna be more likely to replace the brake lines with better ones? A guy who mods his truck and maybe puts a lift on it? Or some guy who keeps his truck totally stock? Pretty silly marketing if you ask me....

Call Greg at PRG... He's got them for our lifted trucks. Tell him I sent you and he'll give you a good price on the whole setup! Gimme a buzz if you need his new number...

Oh, and to the OP... Nicely done! Feels good doesn't it? And think of the $$$ you saved doing it yourself... And just remember, brake dust washes off...

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

I have the EBC slotted on the front with yellow pads, and green pads on the stock rear rotors. Dusting is a little worse, but it doesn't really bother me. Seems that everything has a trade-off, and for the much improved performance? A little more dust isn't that big a deal to me.

Is the extra dusting you have from the Yellow Stuff pads or Green Stuff pads or both. I honestly think the dust factor on mine is great. The Red Stuff on front dust slightly more than the Greens on back but the fronts work harder.

Obviously i have the EBC setup on my Titan as well. Red Stuff pads on front and Green Stuff Pads on back. I've never had brakes on any of my vehicles work as well as these do.

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

I recently did the same thing to Rockman72's Titan for him and he is extremely happy with the EBC rotors and greenstuff pads.

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

Hard for me to say what contributes most to the dusting. It's worse on the front, sure, but the front not only has yellow pads but is slotted, too.

They're both a little worse than stock is really about all it amounts to. Really, not that big a deal.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was your shipping on your order? I just ordered the same rotors front and rear with gs 6000 pads for 488, then got a confirmation email saying the shipping will be 288. I still have 2 business days before they charge me, btw I ordered everything from car parts warehouse. Just curious if that's an outrageous charge for shipping!

Anyway glad to hear the upgrade went well!...any hidden surprises I should look out for when replacing my brakes?

Cheers

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

TforTITAN,

I only ordered Front Rotors and Front Pads (7000 Series), so that is a little different from your order. However I did order these from AutoPartsWarehouse.com and shipping was only $13.97. I.m pretty sure that due to the weight they shipped ground 5 business days.

I didnt really encounter any "gotchas" when replacing the pads / rotors. The only weird thing I found was that the bolts that secure the calipers are a metric size 18.... and my socket wrench set came with a 17 and a 19... weird??? I had to buy an 18 especially for the brake jobs.

hope this helps.

Re: EBC Rotors and Pads installed!

Correction, misread the confirmation email, the shipping is not 288, just 12 bucks.

Anything will help at this point!
