I noticed a vey light vibration in the steering wheel when apply the brakes! I have only 3400 miles on titan 2004 LE Crew Cab 2wd with bid tow package. I had a similar brake problem with Toyota Tundra. The Toyota dealer replaced front brakes with a larger size calipers and pads. It seems that Nissan has the same design problem. I will call my dealer soon, before I will tow my boat.
same problems here...however, 1st time, I took it into the dealer, they supposedly did a hardware replacement to help the pads slide better (engage and disengage) and this was a known fix...then shortly after, it started again...took it in and they replaced the rotor instead of turning them (supposedly) and again replaced the hardware...thankfully under warranty...so far since, so good.

How many miles has it been so far with no problems, because for me it's been three times and I have the new hardware!
Yup, just returned from the dealer...had the 3750 maintenance done. Told them about the vibration I've noticed in the steering wheel when the brakes are applied. Apparently they are aware of this problem and there's a brake kit upgrade that needs to be installed. Unfortunately they're out of stock on the brake mods. Gonna have to wait a couple of weeks to get it fixed.

it happens on my truck too. but i just figured it must have been because i put 22" rims. would my 22's be a problem..? maybe it's a warped rotor as well..

22" should'nt be a problem but of course the dealer will tell you that is what caused your vibration and may not want to fix the problem. My truck has 5600 miles on it and I just acquired that problem. Took it to the dealer and the service writer was like yea there is a campagne out for that problem, and I said really( I knew) needless to say they turned both rotors, replaced both pads, and replaced some bolts , not sure which bolts. Works like a champ now until? Who knows.
Same thing on my Titan, 6k Miles, called the dealer made and apointment for 7:30 a.m. got my truck back at 1:00 p.m. with new rotors,pads,etc... Service sheat said they found hot spots on the rotors, my service advisor said this problem will come back after 5k miles but they would have the solution for this problem in April, I think they will because if they dont we'll have free brakes every 5k miles.
Prior to 9k miles, I've had my rotors turned twice w/ the pads, torque bolts replaced etc. per the then-current TSB. At 12k mi. the problem happened a third time. This time the rotors were replaced along w/ pads etc. I'm now at 15k mi. and the rotor warp is here again and getting worse. This issue is pervasive. There is a problem w/ the design and/or materials and/or manufacturing of the front brake components. This is ridiculous. There is no excuse to not get the engineering/manufacturing right the first time, even for a first-year model.
I love the truck but I'm not going to put up w/ brake repairs every 3-4k miles even if Nissan pays for it. I'm looking into the Calif. Lemon Law. It is a definite safety issue. My informal stopping distance tests (50mph panic stop)showed a 20% increase in stopping distance between my worst case warped rotors and fresh rotors/pads. That could be the difference between a crash and no-crash in the future.
If they can't solve this brake problem, I'll be selling the truck and going back to a Ford or GMC truck. I've owned several, none of which had any brake problems.
me too, i've been waiting for a frickin month and a half and no brake kit yet, what is the deal with Nissan having a shortage... i'm at 19,000 and the brake judder is unbearable now, i'm going in to the Mossy-onopoly service to tell them i'm sick of waiting and that i need something done or this just may be my last post. my vibration is to the point that i may end up wrapped around a pole due to brake failure. wish me luck and hopefully they at least turn the rotors, for chrissakes. plus the brake judder is, as time goes on, so bad that its going to rattle my titan into pieces if not that at least add about 20 new dashboard rattles...
just one more note, Ford and GMC trucks have had their fair share of brake problems, as well as the Toyota Tundra. i could write a novel on the problems of Ford, GM, and Dodge Trucks but i won't go there... After having owned and/or driven the aforementioned trucks there is just no doubt that the Titan is superior, sure its got a few shortfalls but for the most part its just a better truck with a whole lotta power.
talk about shortcomings how bout the F150 and its power, i'd hate to own one and have a dodge neon beat me off the line
My Nissan dealer installed the "Upgrade Kit" on my 2004 Titan @ 1200 miles. They turned the rotors because they were already out of spec. I'm not too happy about the fact that they will need replacing soon. When I owned my 1998 Dodge Dakota, it had similar issues with rotor warping. At 10,000 miles I replaced the (warped) rotors with cryo treated rotors and performance pads. When I traded in my Dakota last month, it had 70,000 miles on it and the rotors and pads still looked brand new. Now, I do not abuse my brakes and do not put a lot of miles on my vehicles (average only 10 - 12k per year). But 60,000 miles on a set of rotors and pads and still had a lot of wear left... That was a huge improvement over the Dodge factory equipment. So, I have decided to replace my Titan's rotors with cryo treated rotors and better pads. There are still only a few places that are doing cryo treatment on rotors. I checked the place where I bought my Dakota rotors back in 1999 and found that they are still around. Applied Rotor Technology (ART). They do have rotors and Pads for the Titan. I have ordered a set for the front and plan to install them in a couple of weeks. I realize that Nissan is working on a fix for the Titan, but I figure that it will probably not be available until next Spring or Summer at the earliest. Then there will be a waiting list to get them replaced. I will post the results of my installation once I get them installed. Hopefully, this should eliminate more trips to the dealership over this brake issue. If you are interested in checking out ART, here is their website. http://member.newsguy.com/~nutech/frames.html

Yo, I'm the one who started this thread back in April. It's been awhile since I've checked the forum. Can't believe this thread was still going on....
Update on my brakes. The first time I took it in in April, the brake judder TSB was not out yet. I took it in again at just under 12k miles and they did the brake TSB. That was almost 12k miles ago (I'm getting close to 24k miles total). The brakes have been fine since they did the brake TSB. Still love driving this truck.....

Texas & Titan - it don't get no better than that!!
Just turned in my Titan this morning for severe shaking while breaking.... this was my 4th time!!! I've had the upgrade, new calipers, rotors, torque bars, you name it. My problems first started at just under 4,000 miles. I've now got only 13,500 miles. I bought the vehicle in late March 2004. This is pretty ridiculous. Overall, I do love the Titan, but I can't handle having to have my brakes repaired or replaced every 2-3,000 miles. I'm in the process of following through with the Nevada Lemon Law. Basically, according to this law, Nissan will have to either replace my truck or buy mine back at original purchase price, plus taxes, fees, etc. That is, if I have the same problem one more time. In Nevada, it takes 4 unsuccesful repairs....
This was my first truck... with these problems and the ridiculous amount of gas I feed this thing... I think I'm going to buy a European sedan... Someone, please convince me that this is a freak thing and that I should put my faith into another Titan..

I dont think its a freak thing since so many of us have had the same problems...however, 3 times already seems odd...sounds to me like the dealership isnt doing the job right (like torquing the lugs to the proper specs). I had mine repaired once, then rotors replaced once and so far so good...but time will tell.

Hey everyone, new to this forum. I've had my Titan since June, has 9900 miles now. I've had the brake judder repaired once under the TSB at my first oil change. Going back tomorrow to have it fixed again. Also getting rhythmic, pulsating vibration in front end between 55 and 65 mph, assuming tires need balancing. First repair was great for a while, but in the last month the judder has slowly returned. Other than the brake thing, I love this truck. Awesome power, head-turning styling. We'll see how the second repair works out.
Just a follow up- Got my truck back from Nissan- The Service Manager says that Nissan is expecting to have a fix on the brake problem by early '05. He wasn't very specific, just said they were very aware of the problem, and trying to fix it.... I hope so b/c I do love the truck. It's a beast. However, 1 more return trip...
