Brake/steering wheel vibration

Anyone noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when you apply the brakes?? I know there was thread about warped rotors earlier. I have a 2wd KC. The vibration isn't "real" bad and sometimes it's worse than others. Just doesn't feel real solid when the brakes are applied. I plan on taking it in for a look-see by the dealer. Just wondering if anyone else has felt this. Mucho thanks for any replies......

I have a 2wd KC also and have noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel when applying the brakes as well. Let me know if you find anything out.

I had the same thing. One of the rotars was warped. They turned the rotar and it is fine now.

The rotors are most likely warped like TitanMike said. The Armada's are apparatently having the same problem and Nissan is supposed to be working on a TSB. I had my truck in over a month ago and they machined the rotors.

I have not had that same problem with mine, however, i may not even be noticing it....here is why...the vehicle i drove prior to my titan was a chevy express 1 ton van and that thing got hot spots and warped rotors every 5000 miles....it was rediculous (had a lot to do with having drums on the rear). Now with the titan...i would definately check lug torque but also over-braking....in other words if your towing something without electric brakes or if you have a lot of downhills in your everyday drive...start thinking about alternate routes...any vehicle will have this problem if braking is super heavy.

Why not just downshift?

Right on bestatchess. The operator's manual had an interesting point because normally on all my previous vehicles I used to just press the darn brakes going down steep hills and such. Sometimes by the time I reach the bottom of the hill I can smell the brake pads! The Titan manual says to downshift and let the tranny slow you down and cruise down the hills. I do this all the time and rarely use my brakes like my previous vehicles.I'm going down the hills with no brakes depressed and all the cars in front of me all you see is their red brake lights on for a mile or so going downhill. I must admit though the drivers behind me who like to go down hills at 80mph dont' appreciate it.

My house is at 7,000 ft. in the foothills of the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs. We have lived here since 1991, and alot of my neighbors still haven't figured out the downshift thing, although they are constantly whining about expensive brake repairs.

Hey guys....thanks for the feedback. FYI....I don't tow anything and I don't go up and down any big hills. Live on the west side of Houston and do regular city/highway driving. The biggest hills around here are the freeway overpasses. The last 2 years I put 60K miles on a Chevy Trailblazer driving like I always do with no brake problems at all. The brakes on it are still solid as a rock. Hit 5K miles on my Titan today....I'll be calling the service manager today and taking it in probably next week.
Hey San Antonio, I've seen 4 Titans on my side of town. Seen about that many Armada's, too. Yes.....Long Live Texas.....AMEN.

TexasTitan- It really sucks to have rotor problems. I must admit that was my main concern when I first looked at the Titan. I feel the rotors could be a little larger. Although even larger rotors can warp if material are weak. Look at some of the euro's like BMW their rotors are humongous. If rotors are an issue may need to go aftermarket. Warped rotors were common in the Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had previous and that was one of the reasons why I got rid of it. When you're out of warranty and rotors warp every 10k miles you start losing that smile on your face. Having warped rotors on the mileage being experienced as you described is unacceptable and sends me up the roof when I hear this. I have 2K miles on my Titan now and if I need to take my baby in anytime soon for this problem I'll be fuming and I hope I don't hear a stupid comment like riding the brakes caused it because I'll rip that person up.

Even though BMWs have very large rotors they can still have problems. My boss has an X5 and it has been in the shop for brake problems on more than one occassion and I would guess it only has 30k miles or so. Not sure exactly what the problems have been on the brakes but lets just say he is ready to get rid of it. They have had NUMEROUS problems with that SUV including a couple that have cropped up again after being fixed (i.e. brakes, windows not rolling up, etc).

Yes, if I ever have rotor problems out of warranty I will go to vented and/or cryo-treated rotors http://www.frozenrotors.com/. There are alot of posts on the F150 forums about rotor problems. For example:

Took my Titan in to the dealer today. They found front pads and rotors slightly warped. Replaced the pads on both sides and turned the rotors. I've put about 15 miles on it since I picked it up and actually the brakes feel firmer and more solid than when it was new. Hopefully....this won't be a regular occurance.
I know some of you have had rotors turned already also. Please keep us informed if you have a 2nd set of problems......Still a dynamite truck...
