found some interesting BFG's

I found a BFG tire that should fit, but I am curious as to the difference.
The OEM size on my LE is 265/70-18.
The BFG's I am looking at are 285/65-18

Am I correct in assuming that the diameter will be less and my truck will not sit as high??? The tires should be wider, but also smaller in diameter??

Anyone with experience in tires have an idea of the difference I will face and/or of these tires will even fit??

You are correct. They will be wider and the profile will be smaller (sides). This will cause your truck to sit slightly lower. As long as you have enough clearance in your wheel wells so that no rubbing occurs (from the 265 to 285's) you should be fine. As a result of going from a 70 to a 65, your speedometer may not be calibrated anymore.

I was also looking at these 285/65 tires. Unless my math is wrong I had calculated the 285/75 tire to have an overall diameter of 32.58" and the stock 265/70's to have an over diameter of 32.6". Here's the formula I used:

width * sidewall * 2 / 25.4 + rim height
265 * .70 * 2 / 25.4 + 18 = 32.6
285 *.65 * 2 / 25.4 + 18 = 32.58

Is my formula wrong? I only see .02" of a difference???

You'd be better off actually checking the manufacturer specifications, as they vary in size despite having the same metric size class.

Sammy is right ... check what BFG says !!! That is what I did ... compare BFG's info to Goodyear's and you will find that the BFG tires are about 1" wider and slightly taller than stock ... I ordered the tires and am waiting on them ... word of warning though ... they are backordered ... big time

Check the ratings on tirerack.com. If its the Rugged Trail T/A, they have a worse tread life than the stock GY's. The GY's were only $99 last week. At least they aren't expensive.

The Goodyears are also more of a street tread vs. the BFG. AT and MT tread never has as good a tread life, that's normal. You have to decide what is worth more to you.
