Brakes & Vibration

Hello Everyone, we bought two Titans in Mid March of 2004. When we reached 4000 miles we noticed when applying the brakes there was a judder in the front end. I have now 40k on both trucks and since that time we have taken both trucks in for service for replacement of rotors and torque bars and new calipers. Since the 4th time the dealer has refused to fix or find a solution to our problem. It seems that at every 4000 this problems reoccurs. Our recommondation to anyone who views this ... is to research all Technical Service Bulletins prior to purchasing any new vehicle. Had we known, we would of not bought these trucks....

If anyone out there has any solutions or advise, your comments are welcomed. Thank you.

the brake warping problem has been talked about probably more than any other problem on this site. I have not experienced it yet (only 1500 miles) but I am expecting it at around 5000 miles. There will be a fix eventually because it isn't cheap to keep paying the dealer service departments to re-turn the rotors and replace them. If you search for "brake judder" you will find some threads about the problem.
some people have switched to a different type of brake pad with success or at least great improvement. If you don't want to change to a different prake pad I would recommend that you call 1-800-NISSAN if you are within your warranty period and the dealership will not fix your brakes anymore. they should know that it's not your fault and be happy to make money off of Nissan-USA to do the work.

Vegas, you should be close to the lemon law numbers with so many repairs! Make them buy it back! It's not just agravating but a safety issue for you and others around you.

Back off Jack

I read on a post that backing the torque off the lugnuts to 85 foot pounds will help the judders. So, I tried it and I have seen some improvement. The official Nissan torque value is 98 foot pounds.

I talked to the Service Rep at Thoroughbred Nissan today, and he said Nissan has a upgrade kit in the works. He can turn my rotors tommorrow and put me in line for the new kit. He does not know when it will come in.

A side note:

Bigger tires mean more demand on brake components. I recommend sticking with the stock tires and wheels until Nissan gets the fix to the field.

the only problem I've had with my titan was leaking valve stem for about the first two days. I think you're comment was meant for lowchoppen6.

I am courious to know if the rotor cuts everyone is getting are done with the rotors on the truck or if they are being removed and cut on a machine. My neighbor has a problem similar to ours on his car, and they concluded the spindles are not true. So cutting the rotors on the vehicle seems to have solved his problem. So far I have had no problems myself. Lug nut torque @ 85 lbs-ft. Wear on my pads so far seem to be nonexistant at 9000 miles.

The problem with the Titan brakes is that Nissan in their infinity wisdom, used Frontier brakes. As a result the front rotor's warp and cause the shudder. Mine started occuring at near 7k, and was fixed at 11k, but (according to the dealer) will probably fail in about 2500 miles. They said Nissan does not have a fix and have stopped issuing their so called repair kits because they were not working either. 2006 will probably be the year of the fix, according to my dealer I'll receive free front brake jobs until the fix is in. The warranty is from the time of the repair, not the time of purchase. So don't allow your dealer to refuse to fix them. You can win the law suit. Jim

Hey JGroff!!!

Hey, here's link for the new TSB for the Titan Brake Judder:

it was amended recently as the first replacement brake kit was worthless!!!

http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../NTB04-066.htm

this is on another post but hey can't see it too much, we're dealing with brakes and Nissan BETTER step up, but it looks like they are!!!

have appointment to take mine in first thing in the morning, not sure how long it'll be, hmmm a day, a week? anyhow they are putting me in a rental per Nissan till the damn brakes are fixed, mine is to the point of undriveability!!! Printed the TSB and handing it to the service advisor, to let them know i'm not f---in around. Although, being taken off the waiting list and put on the emergency list leads me to believe that something is finally going my way, but i have yet to see!!! i'll definitely keep everyone posted... btw - just hit 21,000 -->been on the waiting list since i hit 15,000... ridiculous, yeah i know!!!

This is absolutely not true. I just verified in FAST, Nissans parts system, and the only vehicles using these calipers, rotors and pads are the Titan, Armada and QX56.

Facts not bull**** please.

At the suggesiton of JetTech, I did the same thing shortly after getting my truck. Now have over 13,000 miles with no brake shudder (to be safe, "knock on wood").

I NEVER knew that the titan was having sooo many problems with the brakes. Yesterday i took my titan to get serviced iam now at 4,000 miles and I told the service guy that my car was sort of shaking when I applied the brakes, he told me they would check it out. I later recieved a call from the service department saying they changed my rotors because they were warped I didnt think anything of it, BUT NOW I am a little worried. Also something intresting this is my 2nd titan the 1st one that i purchased caught fire on my way home from the dealership. The powersteering thing had exploded and caused a fire, to accomodate me and keep me happy they gave me a brand new truck that had leather and navigation and re did my contract 8k which made me VERY happy, but know i don't know if i should have gotten a titan...

Oy vey. . . . relax, enjoy it and don't worry about the sky falling. It won't be a sudden disintegration. Want to feel better? Go read the Ford, Chevy and Dodge truck forums and look at their problems.

i've had my Titan for over a year now, still no brake problem.

For the deal you got you could go buy custom brakes if you are so worried and still be way ahead of the game.
