Great thread IMADOGMAN and bwalkertitan; thanks!

The whole ABLS and VDC is a big issue for me as I plan for my Titan purchase next year. My '95 XE-V6 4x4 Hardbody has more of a traditional LSD and it is threads like this that make me feel more comfortable that the ABLS and VDC are going to be features that will allow me to get through the snow, and I don't mean just a little snow, I mean the kind of snow that sometimes exceeds the ground clearance of my Hardbody...

Quad T, I think you will find that the combination of ABLS and VDC will be much better for slippery conditions than a traditional LSD. I actually perfer an open diff. in the snow when moving, with a clutch pack lsd the inside wheel if on ice or slipery snow has a tendency to lock in a turn and cause you to spin.

Also I know for a fact the ABLS works with the VDC turned off. VDC sux in the mud LOL, I was getting ready to roost my buddy behind me with some mud, matted the gas and no power, hit the vdc switch and the titan did a jet boat impersonation. Also iv'e gotten one of the rear wheels off the ground while wheeling(takes alot to do) in 2wd, the wheel in the air spun for a split second and then the other grabbed. That was with vdc off.

SO in actuality, believe me (because I just tested it per above post) and believe the manual which clearly states that the ABLS is functional when the VDC is off.
Thanx Bud,,U answered my Q.As i dont have the VDC just 4x4 and ABLS.

OK - I posted this on another thead but it seems more appropriate here -- I just got my Titan CC LE w/ big tow and off road - w/ e-locker. I do not have VDC since I have the E-locker. The manual only discusses ABLS in conjunction with VDC. Do I have ABLS on my Titan - I do not see it listed anywhere. If I do - does it work in conjustion with the E-locker or is it disabled in E-lock mode. The manual just does not deal with this????

Markly, From the sales brochure:
{Active Brake Limited-slip (front and rear) - Standard on 4x4 models: part of OR package on SE 4x2}

If you meet the above criteria, you have ABLS.
It works as described when the E-locker is off.
If the E-locker is on, there is NO SLIPPAGE, therefore, it will not activate any braking on the locked axle.
If you have a 4x4, I presume that it will still work as described on the front axle, regardless of whether or not you have your E-locker turned on.

Read ALL of the previous posts in this thread for more information.

on one of the earlier posts someone said that abls does NOT work on the front axle, can anyone else confirm this, as when i go four wheeling and it gets a little hairy, i've noticed that only the rear seems to be activated, i am Not getting any braking action on the front axle and was wondering if this is normal ....

A weird thing happend the other day, I was showing off my mighty titan on a wet asphalt parking lot trying to spin it in circles(donuts). i got on the gas and broke traction and turned the wheel and OMG!!! The truck spun so fast and it scared the he!! out of me!! I was expecting the fishtail action that you would expect in 2wd. my guess is that the front abls kicked it on one side and the back onthe the opposite side. what a ride. I will not do that again. Has anyone ever tried that before and got the same reaction? I have 4wd cc le, no offroad pkg,vdc,e-locker.

Albs

I have a SE 2x4 w/o the Off Road package and noticed twice that in situations where I had less than normal traction, one tire will spin for a very short time and then it feels like the other tire kicks in. I don't have any light in the dash or any indication that I had APBS though. What is the base diff supposed to do?

Re: Abls

Tell me this. I have no VDC on/off switch on the dash or any where, do I still have it and it's non controllable. If I don't have VDC do I have ABLS? I was under the impression you had have VDC to have ABLS. Am I wrong?

I get no clunking from the rear, truck spins tires at will and loves getting dirty but from what I can tell from off roading I have a standard Limited slip.

No, you do not have a "standard limited slip" because none of the Titans do. The 4wd w/ off-road package have a "E-Locker" which can lock the rear diff with a switch, but thats it.

Re: Abls

I don't have the e -locker, know that for a fact. I have a standard 4wd nothing extra added. The way I understand it 4x4 Titans all have ABLS so I think I at least have that. Will be finding out Labor Day weekend.
