Exclamation Titan Recall!!

Here's some news for all Titan owners.

Today both myself and my neighbor went to the dealership to drop our Titans off for some work. As for my Titan it was for a oil change, low tire pressure warning light staying on, and right fog light loose. As for the neighbor it was of course brake related!!

Well, while checking in the service department manager advised us that there has been a recall from Nissan on the brakes. And that full details would be mailed to all Titan owners that are effected by the recall. At the time he didn't have the sheet stating the information on what the fix was going to be, but believed it was something like replacing the rotors, brake pads, and calipers.

Needless to say we both put are names on the list at the dealership to get our Titans fixed. That's right a LIST, as of this morning he had 12 other Titans ahead of us on the recall list. He advised us that the list ws so that Titan owners wouldn't get bumped by some-one else, because he forsees a long back order on the parts.

Well, first thing in the morning I plan on calling Nissan Corp. to verify the Recall Status. I hope everyone here calls also and checks with the dealerships that they purchased the Titan from as well as other dealers in their area.

Let's do our best to keep everyone here informed and up to date on this issue.

I got a recall notice about fuel pump corrosion, but nothing about the brakes as of yet. However, I have 2000 miles now and no problems with my brakes as of yet so they might be alright? I hope!

hmm, i just picked up my titan on monday 9/13, and first thing me and my dad noticed was that the brakes felt a little too mushy for it being a new truck. i dropped it off earlier today at nissan to get some sidesteps installed and told them to look at the brakes, no recall was ever mentioned to me when i spoke with the service rep. they let me borrow an altima until i get my truck back, and the brakes on the altima feel wonderful, nice and stiff feeling. after reading another thread about mushy brakes, im guesing that this is a common quirk with the new titan?

Only 1 TSB so far:

Service Bulletin Num : 04066
Date of Bulletin: MAY 28, 2004

Component: BRAKES
Summary: BRAKE JUDDER FROM FRONT BRAKES

Although Chris mentioned a newer TSB number which requires replacement of rotors.

There have been 2...

Another was issued under number 04066A which includes replacement of the rotors. Mine were done three weeks ago now but the bad news is that in less than 2k miles they have warped again.

Californiatitan, which tsb did u have done? I originally had the very first tsb done and not too long after they were warped again. now when i went back to the dealer they said that the "new" tsb had some new special clips and everything else was the same as the old tsb. so i am now waiting on the parts even though i doubt some new clips are going to fix the problem.

I have had 04066 done twice (Correction - once...they just turned the rotors and new pads the first time) and just had 04066A done this last time 3 weeks ago.

Off the top of my head - the originals lasted 11-12k or so...the first 04066 until 15k, the second 04066 until just over 18.5k, the 04066A was done at that time and within 2k miles they have warped again. Don't quote me on the specifics on the milage...don't have the folder in front of me...

When I had the original TSB done the brake judder returned within 1000 miles. Had the updated TSB for the brakes done a few weeks ago. They did not have to replace my rotors so I do not think that is a mandatory replacement unless the rotors are significantly warped. The pedal feel is still on the soft side but not as much as before. Braking feels more confident and I have actually noticed less brake dust on the front wheels (I used to get brake dust splatters but not anymore). Thus, so far it's been an improvement after another 1000 miles, but I'll be paying close attention to them to see if the problem returns after another 1000 miles or more.

Your brakes will always a too soft due to the expansion of the rubber brake lines.

Yes, I agree that the expansion of the lines can have something to do with it, but the pedal feel was on the soft side to begin with so it must be soft by design (I may be wrong but I never heard any owner here say they had a stiff pedal with the OE brakes). The improvement in pedal feel after the most recent TSB has not deteriorated as it did the first time I had the TSB done (became softer after about a week and a few hundred miles). Maybe the expansion in the rubber lines is incremental the more miles you go and use the brakes without the new brake TSB performed.

How many times can these rotors be turned? Are you going to end up replacing your rotors on a brake change after it's out of warranty.

I had my new (used) Titan in the dealership yesterday for a pre-buy inspection. The 1st brake TSB had already been done by the previous owner. The dealership said that I needed to schedule an appointment to have the 2nd TSB done. Apparently, the new TSB also calls for the rotors to be turned, but the dealer agreed to replace mine since that had already been done once.

As luck would have it, they actually HAD the parts in stock. I get the work done on Monday.

GregW, depending on how bad they are out, I doubt you can get them turned more than twice before replacement.

Dan
