OEM tires

Hey there everyone...
I'm new here and have a few questions of some of you more experienced Titan owners. I just bought an LE CC 4X4 Off road and as you know it comes stock with BFG Rugged Trail TA's, I was just wondering if anyone has changed these yet? I haven't really had any major problems with them except for the ride. I don't know if its the off road suspention or the tires themselves. I've read several unfavorable reviews of them, but because of their size I've only found one other tire to match that's not an off road tire (toyo open country a/t) has anyone changed tires or shocks and gotten a better ride on the street, if so please let me know....

I put reguler bridgestone XE street tires on my OR wheels and they ride fine and smooth. generally, the taller and wider the tire, the harder it is to get 4 that balance well in roundness - road force balance. my next tire will be the yokohama geolander. juma

I am thinking that the ride has more to do with the shocks. Rancho is supposed to have adjustable shocks out pretty soon.

no, I used my XE's 245-75's. you can find plenty of 265-70's in regular tires.

I have had to sets of BFG tires in the mid to late 90's but they were Mud Terrain T/A's one set was 31-10.50/15 the other 265/75-16 I thought they were great tires with excellent durability and good tread life. But that is the end of my good experience with BFG tires. My stock rugged trails suck eggs. Had a flat, while attempting a repair the inner liner shredded when touched by buffing tool. And no, they were never ran low on air and overheated like tire shop suggested. They offered to pay for Half of a new tire but I had them check the tread depth and it averaged about 7/32, not bad for 25000miles maybe, but my truck only had about 4000 on it so unless dealer pulled a switcharoo, and I doubt that, these tires will be lucky to make it to 20000 miles, for reference I think my spare, which hadnt been down, had like 17/32 or somewhere in that range. I opted to run spare tire on rim with pressure monitor and put ruined tire on spare rim with a tube inside. Tire guy, who I trust and the company I work for does a lot of business with, said BFG has started skimping on quality last couple years and mine was not first BFG they have had do this. Take it for what its worth but I would sell or trade tires while they are still new and go with a Goodyear or Cooper. Also, anybody else noticed tires wearing crazy fast? I now run 42 psi, up from 36-38 that I used to keep in them. Also...BFG dealer wouldn't warranty because they said tire repairman was at fault. Maybe maybe not, but that doesn't help with terrible tread wear.

Oh forgot to mention earlier... I was driving around today and there was a sudden rain storm, nothing serious but enough to cause standing/running water across the road about an inch deep in some spots. I happen to hit one of these while doing appr. 20 - 30 mph in a slight curve and the entire front of the truck seemed to hydroplane slightly.... this can't be good on a truck with just over 2000 miles on it... I've owned enough vehicles in the past to know the warning signs, those tires are history asap....

I just put on a set of Nitto Grapplers 305 50 20 on my titan last week. Identical tire to the Toyo. They are not quite as tall as the BFG but much wider and so far so good. Very little noise at 80 mph, you still hear the exhaust most. The biggest difference i found is the steering wheel feels more stable with the wider tire and does not want to drift as easy at highway speeds.

Did you have to raise your truck to put the 20s on it?

No I did not raise my truck, my last two were raised and in the long run it was nothing but problems for me. Mine is a 4x4 with OR so it may sit a little higher anyway.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but...what kind of tires are folks using to replace 18" stockers? It looks like there isn't much choice in the 265-70-18, so I was thinking of the 285-60-18 because of the greater choice. Anyone w/2WD done something similar? Anyway, this looked as good a place as any to ask
