Installing new brake lines

I was wondering if bleeding the brakes on the titan takes any special know-how to do,I have never had to deal with a.b.s. before.

I have a set also but my pads haven't come in yet- and it's too cold to boot.

There are a few things to watch out for and I'll pass on some tips I've picked up.

1. Shop manual says disconnect battery FIRST. I don't know why but there may be something energized- sensor, switch etc. that could throw a code as you futz around. Better to be safe and follow that instruction.

2. You want to loose the least amount of fluid possible when you change the lines. This is especially true the closer you get to the master cylinder,ABS system etc.

* Tip - remove the MC cap (Check full) and place a flat plastic baggie over the MC -Replace the cap. This will slow the fluid draining when you open the line connections.

* Tip - Get some round toothpicks, snip off the very tip. When you remove the flex hose stick the toothpick into the open hard tube. Don't jam it in or break it off. This will prevent fluid dripping out, making a mess and putting more air into the lines than necessary. Some vacu line rubber caps work well also if you have some.

Tip- Most say bleed from the furthest wheel from the MC so RR,LR,RF,LF. NISSAN says (I think) RR,RF,LR,LF.

* Tip - Manual says depress pedal all the way when bleeding , others say don't. Either way it will bleed but to be cautious I would put a block under the pedal and and just go 2/3 ~ 3/4 down.

This is to disable the ABS system.

Not really a big deal but you don't want the MC to empty out. If you do it will just take longer to bleed out all the air.

This is a tip most don't know. But it is great!!

Not worth the time.

This depends on how the lines are routed. However you should always follow what the manufacturer specifies for that vehicle. For the Titan it is: RR, FL, RL, FR.

Another thing you will want to do is prestage the master cylinder. This can be easily done. Losen the jam nut on Input Rod for the master cylinder. Then slowly turn the rod until the pedal height is slightly lower. Continue to do this until you have removed most of the freeplay from the pedal. Going to far will cause the brakes to drag when you are not pushing on them. If you have adjustable pedals this should be done with the pedals all the way down first.
