New brake system for the 04' due to recall ? ? ?

I just spoke to my local Nissan dealer and they informed me that Nissan has been having problems with the rotors in the front and within 60 DAYS Nissan should be coming out with a new brake system. For now he advised me to drop my truck off to have the rotors machined. Has anyone heard something similar to this ? ? ? ?

I recently had my 2004 Titan begin to have what Nissan says is brake judder.
The dealer said that they are aware of the problem and that they will grind the rotors, replace the brake pads and some parts of the calipers. on some sites they also say that the brake system is too small for the size of the truck :

I took mine for that and they machined the rotors and added a brand new pad kit. They also had a recall with something up there to were they added new bolts and bushing kit at n/c for all of it.

I believe that the new brake parts are available. Over on the clubarmada.com forums there was a case of someone pursuring the Lemon law with Nissan about their brakes. Turns out that nissan has the new parts, a somewhat low supply BUT his arbitrator was able to obatin the "NEW" brakes parts and have them installed. According to the owner the new brakes feel great and the rotors look bigger and calipers are more beefy. Looks like a solution is almost at hand.

Here is the post from clubarmada.com:

So I picked up the Armada today after it's latest 2 week hiatus at the dealer. I have filed a lemon law claim, and this last trip to the dealer was their (and Nissans) final opportunity to fix the issue. My Nissan arbitration guy, a man by the name of Ken Carter, has been fairly helpful, but he doesn't always return phone calls. No matter, as he arranged to get the newest, "permanent" brake parts down to install on my Armada even before the official release. Thanks, Ken.

Those of you with brake problems will be very pleased to know that on initial inspection, the brakes feel infinitely better than they did. The truck stops very well now- There's no more half-scary moments when braking, which is a good thing. I can feel it grab with the slightest application of the pedal, whereas before it took a good 1" to get any kind of reaction. Now I'd say that I'm immediately getting stopping force. This is how the brakes are supposed to feel. Hopefully this will last- time will tell.

Unfortunately my beast is still rattling like a sonofa*****. Wasn't there something out there about an upcoming TSB with the weatherstripping? Somebody email me please!

Anyway, I will post some pics in the next couple of days. The rotors are larger than the rears (which stayed the same) and the calipers look pretty beefy. I'll climb under there and measure the rotor as well.

I think that Nissan did a good job on the Frontier front rotors, I never had and issue and it stopped well, they also were thicker than the titan's! How can that be???

I feel that the new rotors should be alot wider, with a thicker actual braking surface to absorb heat and reduce warp. Then the vent portion should be wider to sweep the heat out quicker. Because you guys have said this, I now drive slow down the hills and use the gear down on steep long hills to avoid long heat stress.

I hope Nissan does do this recall, we all need them on the 4x4's exspecially.

Chris

i had ti ahve my rotors done too!

Man the damn rotors we so warped, and the dealer said i had 1mm of brake on my front driver side brakes, that is terrible, i love my titan but there are somethings that nissan should have spent a few more dollars on, such as the brakes for a big truck such as this! but the dealer sucked up the bill and gave me a discount on my next visit, so i think the nissan name has earned my vote for taking care of the customer, but the recall will be a relief to know they are concerned...

I was into the dealership today for the 3rd time to have my brakes and rotors replaced...all within 15,000 miles. I was advised that there is NOT a brake recall coming, and that they still haven't got a "fix" for whatever the problem is with the brakes....the service person actually said I would probably be back 2 or 3 more times before there was a "fix". I am going to invoke the "lemon law" and ask them to buy my Titan back....it is wasting too much of my time and it is very frustrating - I don't even hold the steering wheel when I brake because of how badly it shakes. (and they already tried replacing the pins and whatever else was in there....there was an initial "fix kit", but it didn't work.)

Ive been reading about the brake recalls. If you have a 6in lift with 35s will they still do the recall work? Im new to titantalk and Im very impressed with the information you provide. Thanks for teaching me the ropes.

I can't answer your question for sure, but I would think that sense it's an acknowledged problem they wouldn't deny you warranty work.

I had the brake judder on my 2004 as well as since I've read about the warped rotors in this website, I recognized what it probably was. Took it to my dealership in Baton Rouge and they turned the rotors, added a brand new pads, new bolts and bushing kit, warrenty covered it all. We'll see how long they hold up. Service Dept told me due to the number of problems they're having like I had, it won't be long before Nissan does a recall to try to fix the problem once and for good.

Angry Wake-up NISSAN!!!

My brakes got "mushy" at 4K.........they changed to the upgrade pads and parts at the time...they did not turn the rotors as they looked great. At 7K the vibrations are slight..dealer says new rotors when they come are slightly thicker........so they will last a little longer. Is that the "final" fix everyone is talking about???? I doubt it will be "final" if it's just a little thicker. I think the 4 x 4 OffRoad with Big Tow should have bigger and better brakes as standard packaging!!! They sure have lost a lot of good advertising with all the problems. Wake-up NISSAN!!!
