Tire Size Question on 20" Rim

I will be the first to say I don't understand tire/wheel sizing. Here is my situation.

I have 20 x 8.5 wheels and I just install the PreRunner 2" lift.

How big of a tire can I get. Currently my tires are 12" wide. I want narrower tires but much taller. What I have right now are 305 50/R20. What I am after if maximum height without hitting the wheel well when I turn the wheel. I want to go narrower as well the wide tire cut my mileage by 2.MPG.

TIA

I don't know the max height with a level kit. I've heard rubbing but I don't know if that was from width or height. Most say you can't go over 35", and then you are rubbing somewhere.
The way tire sizing works is a ratio. 305 is how wide in millimeters. 25.4 mm per inch means 12 inches. 50 is how high off rim in a percentage of the width. In this case, 50% is 6 inches. With 20 inches of rim, this makes about a 32" tire, 20+6+6.
Stock was 265/70/18. 10.5 wide, 32.6 high.

I'm going with 305/55/20. 12" wide, 33.2 high.
Hope this helps.

I think a 305/55r20 is about the biggest tire you will be able to fit without a lot of trimming. Toyo and Nitto both make tires in this size. They look really good on a level Titan. I don't know if you're looking for an all-terrain or a street tire, but the only tire I can think of that has a smaller footprint than what you have and may be a little taller is the BFG A/T 285/55r20. They are 32.5" tall, which is pretty close to stock.

Both of the following will fit:
The 285/55/20's are 32.3 inches in diameter (0.3 inches shorter than stock)
They cost about $320.00 each installed(BFG TA KO all terrain).

The 305/55/20's are 33.2 inches in diameter (0.6 inches taller than stock)
They cost about $280.00 each installed(Nitto Terra Grapplers).

See my signature. At full lock they rub just ever so slightly but nothing I will lose any sleep over. I am not aware of a bigger tire (in 20") that will work with just a leveling kit.

However, Loufish is running a 315/70/17 BFG A/T (34.5" Diameter) and PreRunnerGreg is running a 35/12.50/17 BFG M/T. Both have a bit of rubbing I think.

2 tires you might want to look at with the 20" Wheels are
The Goodyear Wrangler HP 275 60R 20 OD= 32.9
and
The Michellin LTX M+S 275 60R 20 OD= 33.0
These are both thiner and tall and should have no problem with any rubbing.

20x10 looks much better, but I'm a little biased.

You will get a little rubbing turning the wheel all the way...I'm going to do the pinch weld mod today, should eliminate it completely. I'm also putting on traction bars today, because the axle wrap is horrific with the bigger tires, just something to keep in mind...

Re: Tire Size Question on 20" Rim

First for the origional poster: Look into a 275.65.20. The Terra Grappler by Nitto comes in that size. They are about 34" tall and 10.83" wide. Probably need the pintch weld mod but you'd have to test fit to know for sure. Anyone have any experience with this size of tire on their titan? They should be just under 1.5" taller in overall diameter.

To Barratt 20x10's with a lift look great. You can really get a nice stance and this tire, wheel and lift combo. You will probably want to run a wide tire usually 35x12.50-20. They will ware better on the 10's will last longer because of it.

Re: Tire Size Question on 20" Rim

Will the 20/10 rim fit under a leveling Kit ??

I have a set of wheels that are a great deal and want to move on them but if it wont work on a leveling kit i will just lift it.

What do you all think ??

Re: Tire Size Question on 20" Rim

Depends on the Offset. I don't know anything about what the Offset should be but plenty of other guys here can tell you.
