Pics of chrome 5-spoke wheels (from MSP Wheels)

Just posting for anyone looking for some decent chromed factory wheels. I purchased them from Gary at MSP Wheels. There is about 2 days of brake dust on the wheels in the pictures but they look great when they are completely clean.

I paid $450 for the wheels. Shipping from CA to Orlando, FL was $132.27. The refundable core charge was $450.

So I would have to pay $900 plus shipping and then send them my rims. After they get them, I get 450 back?

jree,

You are correct. Gary can also calculate the return shipping costs and include return labels in the boxes if that is more convenient. I found though that going from FL back to CA was cheaper using FedEx ground vs. UPS ground so I only paid the one way shipping cost.

Are there any blemishes in the crome or are they flawless?

I so want to do this when I get my truck. I really do not like the '05 grey color.

I went and took a close look at my wheels. Are the wheels 100% perfect? No. Is anything visible once your breath is no longer close enough to fog up the wheel? No.

The blemishes are not so much defects in the plating but the defects in the wheel surface that get exaggerated by the plating. I noticed that on the surface where the stick on weight goes it is perfectly smooth on the painted wheels but on the chromed wheels you can see the machining ridges. The painting process appears to hide alot of the flaws. For the price I don't think there is anything unacceptable about the wheels at all. I don't think anyone looking for a chromed factory wheel would be disappointed with Gary's work.

I second Tim. I had Gary chrome my 17" offroad wheels and they look great but do show any defects (small nicks, etc) in the wheels once chromed. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I get alot of nice comments-even from my buddies with Ram hemis with 20" chrome!

I got my wheels from Gary also. They were installed in the evening. The next day I cleaned them and found that 3 rims had blemishes in the corners where the spoke curves to meet the rim. Not small nicks or minor imperfections, but up to thumbprint size "coffee stains". Apparently my wheels did not take the chroming process fully and the under layer of copper was showing through. Gary apologized for the problem and said will replace them and cover the second install fee. It has been a month now and I still have the poorly chromed rims. My emails and phone calls have not been returned. Guess he is busy.

Pupule,

The copper layer showing is definitely not a good thing. Anytime I've called Gary he has answered the phone (during the last two weeks). I can't comment on why he hasn't responded or sent out the new set but from my dealings with him he seems like the type of guy that will make it right. Keep trying him.

Thanks Tim,
Gary contacted me by e-mail and will let me know as soon as another set is available. Despite the brown spots, the wheels look pretty sharp. I just want everything as perfect as possible. I live in Southern California so shipping costs are not and issue. I can live w/ a few nicks and pits, but the chroming process should be complete. I will keep you posted.
