Sick of the Tire Pressure monitors

Is it me or do these things just suck? They don't work when you keep the pressure at the recommended pressures and are tempermental at "resetting" themselves? I have all of my tires over 40lbs at the moment and I still have that damned idiot light.

Hmmm, never had an issue with that so far...

Do you still have stock tires by chance?

Funny you bring that up. on Monday morning, the wife comes back after leaving for work and yells at me. "Your truck is beeping at me! There's a weird light on your dash".

I asked her, "does it have an exclamation mark with paranthesis around it?"
(wife)"Yes!"
(me)"oh, don't worry about it. It's just the tire pressure sensor. I'll check it out when you get home tonight."
(wife)"Are you sure?"
(me)"yeah... it's happened to me before. Don't worry about it"

While on my way to work, my cell phone rings.. it was the wife.
wife: Someone just flagged me down. He said, i'm running on a flat tire.
Me: oh... where are you at?

She takes the same route as I do, so I met up with her at the gas station and proceeded to buy a Fix Flat can. The clerk comes up and refers me to go across the street to get a plug for $20 rather than spend $7-9 on a can. I take his advice and pump the tire than drive across the street to get a plug. So far, it's running okay. But with past experiences, the plug usually is only temporary.

Point of the story is: I should've checked it out without assuming the tire sensor was just being a prick. so.. I got a few of these from the wife >

Yeah, I still have the stock ones.....that's another thing, these Goodyear SR-A's have to be THE worst tire that I have ever owned as far as wear goes. Oh, try finding them too.

I have a habit (since being in the Army for 15 years) for doing my before PMCS by walking around the truck. To me they seem to be more of a burden than anything else. Is there a way that Nissan can program that part of the computer to "off" mode? I hate this added "safety" feature, I say this because I see it's becoming the standard on lots of vehicles.

mine went off every time the temperature went below 35 degree's this winter so i would get out the trusty tire gauge and they were all where i had set them. thankfully i dont have to worry anymore cuz i have aftermarket wheels and tires.

How did you get rid of the annoying dash light? The buzzing is gone, but the light remains on.

Hey TexasTitan04.......I think it takes a few tanks of gas to go away....you could see if your dealer can reset them....they have a gadget to do that. I would call the SM.
I had some leakers on my 04...they were replaced and no problems. The low air warning never came on since I never let it get below or at 28 psi........I'm going to have one installed in my spare to do the 5 way rotation on Friday and I'll ask them about it and see what the gadget is. Cold temperature has never tripped one of these for me. So far I have had no problems with them......9,400 miles on the o4 and about 1,300 miles on my 05.
Good luck.

TexasTitan04 - Describe exactly when your light comes on.

If the warning light is illuminating without a corresponding buzzer/alarm, that indicates a malfunction in the system.

I don't think that the fact that they alert me what is buggin' me - but the fact that they are so poorely calibrated. To me they showed 35lbs all the way around and still the tires on the right would wear on the center.

I just had my tires changed the day before yesterday at Schwabbie's (Toyo Open Country) when i left there i checked the monitor and the pressure was up to 3lbs apart on between the four.

I'll believe the warning signs in the future - but stick to a manual reading of the pressure.

Mine have worked well and only went off twice when the tires were a little low and then the temperature dropped dramatically. I put a little more air in the tires and the warning light cleared as expected.

My seem to go off when my pressure gets below 40 lbs....I was getting tired of my tires wearing funny and when I went to air them down to 35 lbs the buzzer/light combo goes off.

I swapped my wheels for some 22 Foose and when I left the tire place I heard this buzzing. I thought my newly installed sound system had a problem then I saw the dashlight.

No more buzzing but the light is on. I think they did something majorly wrong. When I take in back to the dealer for a window switch replacement I will see if they can help.
