Snow tires

I recommend BFT AT/KO's as an all around tire for mud and snow. I had them and will get them again this season when I finish with the stock tires...

Michelin LTX/MS are also ones I've seen and heard work well.

Since I don't know to what speed you drive when you need traction, getting some tire chains (for slower speeds) or tire cables (for higher speeds) would give you a big boost.

Srvfan,

I got a set of studded snows and wheels through the local Les Schwab. I've been a customer of theirs for a long time and they know me unfortunately pretty well. They also know I'm pretty fussy about my cars and trucks. I told them what I was looking for and inside of a week I had a call with a solution.

We tried on a used set of custom 17s turned in by a guy with a Chevy and found they fit perfect. We then got in a set of pinned snows that measured almost exactly the same height/diameter as the 18s on the Titan.

I live at 1200' on the side of a mountain and although the rest of the drive to work in the winter is pretty easy, it's getting off this hill that is the tricky part. The Toyos that the guys at Les' sold me did extremely well. Besides that, the Titan's 4WD system was obviously engineered by the same team that did our Pathfinder's. Both of them are unstoppable in ice and snow.

Hope this helps.

I second that....best tires in the snow I have ever owned (BFG AT/KO). In fact, best truck tires I have ever owned for on and off road performance.

If you want snow only performance, go with the Blizzak's. I had a set on my F150 and was AMAZED at how well they did on pack snow and ice. Their deep snow traction wasn't as good as an MT or an aggressive AT however. They don't last long if you run em year round though...

snows

To the guys who recomended the BFG or LTX Michelen , those are nice tires but they are not snow tires . My wifes Montero had the LTX AT and the difference between them and the Bridgestone Blizzaks I put on it for the winter was night and day there is simply no comparison . The tires you mentioned are nice i've owned both but they simply are not snows , and consequently do not give the icy/slushy road grip i'm looking for. I'd like something like the Blizzaks , Hakkepalita's , Verdestien etc. especially something a couple inches narrower , (narrow is much better in the snow , for those who don't know they float less). Nobody makes a better snow than the Sweedes. how about some type of cheap GM take off 17" wheel . Did they make something steel spoked that can be had reasonably? Chains stink at more than 15-20 MPh .We tow hundreds of miles every weekend pulling sleds frequently on snow covered roads . The extra stopping power and turning power of true snows can't be over emphasised . The guys without them are the ones frequently in the ditch esp those silly Dodges with those stupid Banana slick 20" those are a real joke .

Re: snow tires again

I have a set of '05 charcoal 18" wheels mounted with some virtual no name snow tires that I bought at Les Schwab. I swap these for my stock chrome wheels and tires for the winter. Schwab siped the tires for an additional charge. I drive many miles on snow pack every winter and other than the additional noise (I assume from the siping) they give me great traction.

Re: snow tires again

I have BFG AT/KOs and some Cooper studded snows, both on stock 17" 2004 off road package wheels.

BFG AT/KOs are very good in the snow and wear very well. The studded Coopers are better on ice, but wear more rapidly.
