Due to no tire manufacturers pressing any 18" tires that I can find anywhere, I am considering swapping my 18" rims for the 17" off-road rims. I believe there is a broader selection of tires in the 17" size. This may sound like a really stupid question but here goes, If I swapped to the 17", would there be any danger in me burning up my rear-end or frying my tranny? I was talking to a guy about it and he said, "You better not do that!! That truck was designed to run 18" rims and you'll mess up your tranny and rear-end if you change rim & tire sizes." I thought that was a load of crap. Am I right? Any help would be appreciated.
Not a rim guru, But it seems to me that the rim size is only relevant if it interferes with the brakes. Otherwise the rim size does not matter. As long as the overall tire diameter is the same as, or close to stock, your good to go.
The truck was designed to run with minimum 17" wheels to clear the front brakes. Some 16" will even fit on the rear. There is actually slightly less drivetrain stress (very slightly, probably unmeasurable) when using the 17" wheels, as the mounted assembly weighs slightly less.
I may be partial, but go with the Centerlines. They are VERY light. Mine are 6 pounds lighter than my factory 17" offroad wheels were.

Ditto, my Stingray IIIs only weigh 20lbs a piece. And to answer the original question: go slap whoever told you that. The only issue with changing wheel size is brake caliper clearance. If you're going with the OR 17"s, obviously that's not an issue. Most 17"s will work fine, however some might have clearance issues.

Don't listen to that guy, he's the same one that used to give me wheel & tire advice. Every one else be on the look out and don't take any advice from the guy pictured below!

It's better to have it and not need it, Than need it and not have it!"
Hmmm, I did not go back and check the paperwork. If they are 20#, that's a whole lot less. My OR wheels were 32# boxed to ship. So it is more like 11# less for the Centerlines (subtracting off the boxes).

Not sure what you're saying, but 20lbs is what Centerline actually stated was the wheel weight. I haven't been able to physically check, because I ordered them with the tires already mounted. Did you have the Stingrays or another model, because I'm sure there's a weight difference between them?

If your Titan came with stock 18's, downgrading to 17's would be a problem. The 17's will not clear the calipers.
