Steering Vibration on 22" rims

Hello Forum,

I'm fairly new here and this is my first post.

I recently purchased 22" Centerline Rims for my 04 Titan. Now I have steering vibration around 45 mph. I had the wheels balanced three times, but the vibration is still there. I took it back today and the shop installed aluminum center hub adapters to fill in the gap from the wheel hub to the rim.

Took it out...and still there is vibration! I spoke to the shop tech and he believes it may be the rotors or the tires themselves.

Im taking the Titan to the Nissan dealer tommorrow to have the rotors checked or replaced. If that doesn't help, could it be the tires? The tires are not name brand tires, so my guess is, it could also be the tires. The tires are 305/40/22. Any other ideas or tips...

Thanks

Re: Steering Vibration on 22" rims

Did they spin balance the wheels? Or just put them on the changer and balance them there. The problem didn't exist before...so I doubt it's the rotors. If someone dropped one of those wheels, it's now out of balance...or the wheels were out of whack before they were installed.

Yes, the driveshaft is now at a different angle...but I doubt that's the root of the problem.

It's the wheels.

Re: Steering Vibration on 22" rims

Got the truck back from the shop. Their fix, they changed all four rims and installed Nitto tires. They said the vibration had stopped, but when i took it home, I could still feel the vibration. I had my wife drive the titan and followed close by, I could see the rims wobble as if the rims were not installed right. I took it home and removed the rims and installed them as flush as I could get them with the rotors. I drove her out and again you could feel the vibration and visually see that the rim is NOW slightly wobbling. I guess it could be the lug nuts not properly seating in. What else could it be????

Re: Steering Vibration on 22" rims

hmm are your wheels still loose once you tighten the lugs? maybe your lug nuts are to short?

Re: Steering Vibration on 22" rims

Finally!

Thanks for all your advise. I went to another wheel shop and told them my problem. The owner suggested that I change the lug nuts with the ones with a sleeve because the ones that came with the Centerlines didn't appear to fit the holes. They tooks off the rims and re balanced them. To my suprise, all four rims were off balanced! The rims were also low in air, about 20 psi each! They balanced and mounted the rims and I took a test drive. Well, what do you know, no vibration!

Today, I will be returning to the shop where I bought the rims and slap them with the receipt for the re balance. To add, I'll probably let the owner now that his employees need more training on how to balance and "put air" on a tire.

The tire I have now are 305/40/22. Any recommendations for the 305/45/22. The sidewall is alot taller than the 40 s and it fills in the gap between the fender.

Again, thanks alot guys.
